Rated 5 out of 5 by from 9 years of Aquasauna When my wife graduated college the first thing she wanted to do was buy a nice water filter for our home and upgrade our air filtration. I obliged and we bought the aquasana countertop system which we have had now for almost 10 years. It's fantastic and we love it. We also use their shower system and our family loves having soft hair and normal skin that's not too dry from all the chlorine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally, water that tastes good! I live in a city that supposedly has great tasting water - and most of it does! But for some reason, at my house, the water intermittently tastes awful! I have tried other filters (both pitcher and under sink), but had resorted to drinking bottled water because none of them worked. I decided to give the Aquasana countertop filter a try. It was easy to install, and now I have finally have great tasting water. I've had it more than a month, and it has been consistently tasty. I now keep a 2-liter bottle in my refrigerator full of water that I got through my filter, and so I have cold, delicious water available any time I want it without having to keep buying disposable bottles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ware from a great product This product installed easily. The quality of the water surpasses anything I have used before to include high-priced bottled water. The taste is superb, and the water is crystal clear and clean. With changing the filter every six months, I went from $50 per month for bottles water to $10 per month for Aquasana water. I also got the filtered drinking canister for work, and it does a great job too.

The water tastes great and I always feel confident my family is getting not only great tasting but healthy water!I use it to make iced tea, homemade soups, ice cubes, etc. Everything tastes better with filtered water. And I don't have to carry heavy cases of bottled water into my house and I'm not putting plastic bottles in the landfills which makes me feel more Green. It's a Win/Win situation!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will always have this countertop unit! The simplest to install. Make a tremendous difference in taste of water. Easy filter changes if you use the proper sized metric box end wrench. Easy leak stoppage with same wrench. Been using for many, many years. Aquasana would do well to include in the instructions the information about using the correct metric box end wrench or socket

Aquasana FAQs

  1. Do I have to pay for a plumber to install the system?

Our countertop drinking water filter system is very easy to install, and it only takes a few minutes to do; no plumber is necessary. If you have any questions or need assistance, our technical support representatives at 866-662-6885 can walk you through the installation process.

  2. How often do I have to replace the cartridges and how much do they cost?

We recommend replacing the cartridges after six months or 450 gallons, whichever comes first. Replacement filters cost $59.99, but you can save 15%, get free shipping, and extend your product warranty by signing up for our no-contract auto-ship filter replacement program, Water for Life.

  3. Is this purified water?

No, and actually, purified water is not as healthy as filtered water. Purified water undergoes reverse osmosis or distillation, which strip everything out of your water - not only the contaminants, but also the healthy, natural minerals. Our system uses selective filtration designed to reduce contaminants from the water and leave in the natural healthy minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

  4. How do I recycle the replacement filters?

Our company will recycle the filters for you, but we do not cover the shipping cost to return the filters back to us. In reality, the environmental impact of shipping the filters back to us outweighs the good of recycling. To recycle the AQ-4035 drinking filters yourself, remove the ends of the filters, recycle the plastic parts (which are appropriately numbered) and put the carbon either in your compost pile or garden (carbon is good for plant life), or just throw it out (since the carbon degrades quickly, and is a positive component in a landfill).

  5. I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. Which filter system should I get?

The countertop system is perfect for renters because it does not require a new hole in the counter. To install an under counter system, you can remove the existing sprayer or soap dispenser in your rental and install our faucet in its place. This option will not damage or permanently modify your plumbing. When you move out, you can easily remove the system and reconnect your plumbing back to normal.

  6. What size adapters do you send with the countertop system (for the diverter hose)?

    13/16 and 15/16 male.

  7. What size is the chrome collar on the countertop system (on the diverter hose)?

    55/64-27 female.

  8. What does TDS mean?

TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

  9. What is BPA? And why are people concerned about it?

BPA stands for Bisphenol-A, a contaminant found in most plastics. BPA can adversely affect your health if consumed at high levels. Aquasana drinking systems do not contain BPA, and our filtration process reduces existing BPA.

  10. Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

Hard water is more of a nuisance than a health risk, and is not necessarily contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Hard water is generally safe to drink, after it has been properly treated.

  11. What is soft water, and is it safe to drink?

Having soft water just means you have a lower concentration of dissolved minerals in the water (primarily calcium and magnesium). Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still contain contaminants.

  12. What is selective filtration, and how do Aquasana systems filter drinking water?

Selective filtration is the process of sub-micron filtration, micron filtration, adsorption and ion exchange, all of which selectively reduces chemicals, heavy particulates and most dangerous heavy metals from the water while maintaining healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium.

  13. How do I know if an Aquasana system will be compatible with my faucet?

The only faucets the AQ-4000 water filtration system will not be compatible with are the 2-in-1 faucets that have a detachable sprayer at the faucet opening. The AQ-4000 will fit most standard faucets and also comes with two adapters. If your faucet happens to be a non-standard size than the hose connection or adapters that come with unit, you can take your aerator to the plumbing section at your local hardware store and have it measured. After you know the size of your aerator, contact technical support with the size and we will see if we carry the right size adapter, and we will send it to you.

Hi there! Does it kill coliforms ? If yes which ones and what percentage af all coliforms does it make?

Asked by: Polina
Thank you for inquiry. The Counter Top drinking system will not remove Coliform. However, we do manufacture a Reverse Osmosis system that will filter much of the Coliform. But, the only guarantee to eradicate it completely from your water is with a UV system. We do have a Well System with UV if you are interested at https://www.aquasana.com/whole-house-water-filters/500k-gallon-well-water You can also shock your well with bleach, but it may need to be repeated. There is a very informative article at the following link that explains your best options and a chart for disinfection based on the depth of your well. http://www.waterandhealth.org/newsletter/private_wells.html If you are interested in a system, I highly suggest you speak to one of our Home Specialists so they can go over your water report with you and discuss what options may be best for you before you purchase something you may not need, etc. Please give us a call at 866.662.6885 or e-mail Sales@Aquasana.com!

One of the tubes is getting brown. What does that mean?

Asked by: so concerned
What you are seeing is the result of the incoming water from your pipes prior to the water being filtered, usually a result of sediment, rust, or iron depending on your water source. The reason you do not see this in the outgoing hose is a result of those contaminants being removed/reduced by our filtration.

Will it eliminate sulfer?

Asked by: Mary t sulferwaterhater
Hi Mary! The counter top system will not remove the sulfur smell in your water. Activated carbon filters can remove low levels of sulfur sediment, manganese and iron. However, maintenance and replacement of filter systems are very high because sulfur, iron, manganese and other suspended materials in the water soon clog the filter. And because the levels in well water change, we do manufacture an Iron Filtration tank to deal with these. Please call ur office at 866.662.6885 to speak with a representative about our Iron Filtration.

While the filter is connected to the faucet, can one choose to get unfiltered water out of the faucet for washing, cleaning, etc.?

Asked by: LK for clean water
Oh, yes! Regular water comes out of the faucet normally. When you want filtered water, just pull out the little pin on the side and the water is then re-directed to the filter and back out in a small stream. I like to turn the faucet on, and let it run for about 10 seconds, then pull the pin, and let that run about 10 seconds, and then I fill my water bottles with the fresh filtered water. When I'm done filling, I push the pin back in, and then turn the water off.

No, you just need to flush new filters for 10-15 minutes after you install them. After that they will be good for 6 months. hello. i've been reading some reviews on your aq 4000 countertop filter, and quite a few remark on how difficult it is to replace the filters, (and others about leakage). please explain why these might happen. thank you. joel

Asked by: red1
Hi Red, This system works by using your water pressure to force the water through the system and out of the spout. If the filters are not changed frequently enough, or the caps are over tightened, then the pressure buildup may make it difficult to get those caps off. We suggest using a .17 mm socket wrench on the caps, and even if they are super tight, it should make loosening them very easy. Leaks may occur if parts of the system have started to wear down after several years of use, or if parts are installed incorrectly. We have a full service team available at 866.662.6885 to assist in troubleshooting any problems you may encounter. Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

How do you know it is time to change filter in 4105 model

Asked by: dorai
We suggest replacing the filter in that system every 6 months. After 6 months we can no longer guarantee the performance will continue to meet the same filtration percentage reduction as the performance data. This is because after 6 months the filter will start to become over saturated and the media will start to degrade. Once the filter starts to degrade, you risk bacteria and mold growing inside the filter and the system: Heterotrophs (heterotrophic bacteria) are a group of microorganisms (yeast, molds & bacteria) that use organic carbon as food (as opposed to autotrophs like algae that use sunlight) and are found in every type of water. You can still use the filter longer than 6 months, however we cannot guarantee the results will be the same as the first 6 months. Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

What is the pH level of the water after using the Claryum system?

Asked by: TFHollo
Thank you for your interest in Aquasana! Naturally occurring minerals in your water like Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium are retained by our selective Claryum filtration, leaving you with healthier, delicious water! Reducing acidic compounds and preserving naturally occurring minerals improve water alkalinity and overall pH levels for optimally hydrating water. That being said, the system has not been tested to determine to what alkalinity level it will take your water, and the end result depends largely on your water quality before filtration. I have read about the plastics particles found in water now. Does you filter remove them also?

Asked by: Robert A
Microplastics are small plastic particles in the environment. While there is some contention over their size, the U.S. National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration classifies microplastics as less than 5 mm in diameter. They can come from a variety of sources, including cosmetics, clothing, and industrial processes. 5mm = 5000 microns. Aquasana drinking filters are certified by the NSF to remove contaminants down to 0.5 microns, and the Reverse Osmosis system reduces to .001 microns. However, while our filters remove many of the known contaminants that make up various microplastics, our systems have not been certified specifically for the term “microplastics.” Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

AQ4000 filter unit does not lower water hardness levels and stays the same as my faucet tap water at 165 PPM after 2 hour- flush time !!! Is it safe to drink at this water hardness level ? Thanks.

Asked by: SanJoseWater
My Google search on "What is hard water" brought a Wikipedia article which included this note: "The World Health Organization says that "there does not appear to be any convincing evidence that water hardness causes adverse health effects in humans".[1] In fact, the United States National Research Council has found that hard water actually serves as a dietary supplement for calcium and magnesium.[9]" As for the experience at our home, we've been using the Aquasana counter top filter for all our drinking and cooking needs in Southern California (a moderately hard-water area), for more than 10 years, with no related health problems at all. And we've learned to live with the mild hard-water issues like the calcium deposit left in pots after boiling water. Hope this helps.

I have Pfister faucet. Would this work to connect in my faucet? If it doesn't work, is it returnable? How often you have to change the filter? There's only 2 of us.

Asked by: Onthego4
The counter-top water filter comes with various faucet adapters. If your current faucet has a removable aerator or internal/exterior threads, I'd be surprised if the filter couldn't be attached to your faucet--with or without those adapters. Refer to the company's Web site or contact them directly for their return policy. With two using the water filter daily, I change the filters once every six months. I've used different faucet-attached and counter-top water filters and Aquasana's is, by far, the best I've used.
