Rated 4 out of 5 by from The NSF rating is accurate ! I bought the AQ-4000B countertop filter 18 days ago after a VERY thorough research on water quality.I checked the annual drinking water quality report for my town, which showed all the chemicals etc that they test the water for & what the results were and how often they do tests. ( daily !) I spoke with an NSF rep.to verify Aquasana's claims. I also bought a test kit and checked my water for various items.I concluded that this system is the ONLY countertop system that removes the most bad items from your drinking water while leaving the good things that are good for your body to take in. As to fluoride, the water quality report showed that fluoride was tested to be at .67 ppm ( mg/L) and the the acceptable level is 1.5 ( ppm ( mg/L). As to a TDS reading I have concluded that it really does NOT tell you (1) what is in your water. (2) It's not accurate when it comes to whether your water is good or bad.( 3) If you get a bad TDS reading it could be from minerals like magnesium, potassium & calcium etc which are good for you but will create a bad TDS reading because they are some of the minerals that create water hardness. So the bottom line is,do you like the taste of Aquasana water ? Almost forgot to mention that when I was buying the AQ4000B and asked about the Aquasana shower filter they gave that to me FREE ! Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT!! Love water again! I have used their countertop filter for over a year now, but had to buy another one because a friend over tightened and broke the other =) I didn't like water much because of the taste... Aquasana filtered water takes the "yucky" taste out, leaving fresh water! Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy installation, works great! I have been using the Aquasana countertop water filter for over 10 years. This new purchase works as well as the first unit. I have replaced the units several times even though I just needed a new diverted due to our extremely hard water. Besides, when they are on sale, it is cheaper to just buy the whole unit. The newer model filters do a better job in filtering the water, but they are much slower. Overall, I am happy with the countertop filter and have never been inclined to try a different manufacturer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tasting Water! After a long wait for delivery (17 days from order to my door) and an easy set up we were initially very disappointed since the water only came out in barely a trickle. After taking apart and reconnecting several times I called customer service. The agent was helpful, apologetic and cheerful. She thought I likely received a defective filter in my unit. She "expedited" two new filters to me (only took a week) and I replaced originals. The water speed increased to refrigerator water flow and tasted wonderful! I'm a bit disappointed in the flow stream and definitely disappointed in the speed of delivery. Other than that, the water tastes wonderful and the product delivers as promised--which I guess is the most important thing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase ever This infiltration system is a game changer. No more smelly water, no more metallic taste, just pure clean water that makes everything taste better. I would buy it over and over again. Highly recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible design, incredibly hard to swap filters I've had this filter for almost ten years now, and the design has not changed since. I like the quality is water, however, prepare to lose your knuckles when the time to swap filters comes. After six months of use, caps get stuck, and it will be a nightmare to open them. Don't believe the customer support, recommending to use a wrench. It won't work. Since 1-inch bezel surrounds the filter, there is not enough space to grip the cap tightly. You can't use a socket since the connecting flow tubes are almost impossible to detach and will further complicate the process. If you somehow manage to grip the cap securely with a wrench key, the plastic will simply crumble once you apply the pleasure. I can't even explain how many times I've had my fingers all scratched to blood. Customer service will advise you to make sure to apply enough oil prior sealing the filter - IT WON'T HELP. I've had to order a replacement at least three times because the cap got stuck completely. So, bottom line - very affordable filter, produces good quality of water; however, the design and functionality are HORRIBLE. Mark my words, you will hate it when time to change filters comes. Last time was my final time using it, and I'm researching a purchase an under the counter, professional filter, although I know it will be more expensive. I have no more patience dealing with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Delicious Water I'm really enjoying the water quality as a result of using the water filter system that connects to my kitchen sink. I tasted the difference immediately. The device was extremely easy to install. My only issue with this product is the hoses. They are obnoxious and get in my way when working in the sink. the water pressure is also very slow. I was thinking about getting one for my bathroom, but I'm hesitant because of the hose.

Aquasana FAQs

  1. Do I have to pay for a plumber to install the system?

Our countertop drinking water filter system is very easy to install, and it only takes a few minutes to do; no plumber is necessary. If you have any questions or need assistance, our technical support representatives at 866-662-6885 can walk you through the installation process.

  2. How often do I have to replace the cartridges and how much do they cost?

We recommend replacing the cartridges after six months or 450 gallons, whichever comes first. Replacement filters cost $59.99, but you can save 15%, get free shipping, and extend your product warranty by signing up for our no-contract auto-ship filter replacement program, Water for Life.

  3. Is this purified water?

No, and actually, purified water is not as healthy as filtered water. Purified water undergoes reverse osmosis or distillation, which strip everything out of your water - not only the contaminants, but also the healthy, natural minerals. Our system uses selective filtration designed to reduce contaminants from the water and leave in the natural healthy minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

  4. How do I recycle the replacement filters?

Our company will recycle the filters for you, but we do not cover the shipping cost to return the filters back to us. In reality, the environmental impact of shipping the filters back to us outweighs the good of recycling. To recycle the AQ-4035 drinking filters yourself, remove the ends of the filters, recycle the plastic parts (which are appropriately numbered) and put the carbon either in your compost pile or garden (carbon is good for plant life), or just throw it out (since the carbon degrades quickly, and is a positive component in a landfill).

  5. I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. Which filter system should I get?

The countertop system is perfect for renters because it does not require a new hole in the counter. To install an under counter system, you can remove the existing sprayer or soap dispenser in your rental and install our faucet in its place. This option will not damage or permanently modify your plumbing. When you move out, you can easily remove the system and reconnect your plumbing back to normal.

  6. What size adapters do you send with the countertop system (for the diverter hose)?

    13/16 and 15/16 male.

  7. What size is the chrome collar on the countertop system (on the diverter hose)?

    55/64-27 female.

  8. What does TDS mean?

TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

  9. What is BPA? And why are people concerned about it?

BPA stands for Bisphenol-A, a contaminant found in most plastics. BPA can adversely affect your health if consumed at high levels. Aquasana drinking systems do not contain BPA, and our filtration process reduces existing BPA.

  10. Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

Hard water is more of a nuisance than a health risk, and is not necessarily contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Hard water is generally safe to drink, after it has been properly treated.

  11. What is soft water, and is it safe to drink?

Having soft water just means you have a lower concentration of dissolved minerals in the water (primarily calcium and magnesium). Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still contain contaminants.

  12. What is selective filtration, and how do Aquasana systems filter drinking water?

Selective filtration is the process of sub-micron filtration, micron filtration, adsorption and ion exchange, all of which selectively reduces chemicals, heavy particulates and most dangerous heavy metals from the water while maintaining healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium.

  13. How do I know if an Aquasana system will be compatible with my faucet?

The only faucets the AQ-4000 water filtration system will not be compatible with are the 2-in-1 faucets that have a detachable sprayer at the faucet opening. The AQ-4000 will fit most standard faucets and also comes with two adapters. If your faucet happens to be a non-standard size than the hose connection or adapters that come with unit, you can take your aerator to the plumbing section at your local hardware store and have it measured. After you know the size of your aerator, contact technical support with the size and we will see if we carry the right size adapter, and we will send it to you.

User Q & A

How would you know when to change the filter? Is there a blinking light?

Asked by: Goo86
Thank you for your question! This is one of our classic systems, so it does not include an indicator device. We suggest changing your filters at least every 6 months. Once you get used to the system you may also notice when the flow rate starts to decline, or when the water starts to taste different, and both are good indicators that the filter should be changed. How does it work? I have the undercounter one and it is great. Marithelma

Asked by: Marithelma
Thank you for your question. The diverter hose that comes with the system will attach to your kitchen faucet, and the hose will carry the water through the system and back out. You can see the instructions here for a bit more clarity- http://cdn.aquasana.com/assets/AQ-4000_Install.pdf Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

Will this filter out Mycobacterium (NTM / MAC)?

Asked by: Inu1
Hello! Thank you for your interest in Aquasana! To the best of my knowledge, Mycobacterium can only be dealt with via UV filtration. We do not currently have a point of use system that can be fitted with a UV, but we do offer a whole home UV filter that can be purchased individually, or with a whole home filtration unit. Please give us a call at 866.662.6885 if you would like more information on any of our systems and we will be happy to help. Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

Is it more robust/reliable than Clean water machine ?  I have faced issues with Clean water machine w.r.t motor and other leakage problems , is counter top filter more reliable as it has less moving parts  ? Also do they use same filter internally

Asked by: Rohit
Thank you for your interest in Aquasana! The AQ-4000 Countertop system utilizes a diverter hose, which is hooked up to your kitchen faucet. The system will use your water pressure to force the water through the system, eliminating the need for a motor. This is a duel cartridge system, so it will require a different type of replacement cartridges. Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

Can anyone tell the flow rate of this. I installed a new one. With good water pressure, I'm getting only 12oz (350ml) water in 30 seconds. Normal?

Asked by: A_E_
Thank you for your question! This system is rated for .5 GPM, so the flow rate you are getting is a bit slower than normal. If you just installed the system, then the flow rate may pick up once the filters are fully saturated. If the filters are older, then they may be clogged, and ready to be changed. If the issue persists, please give us a call at 866.662.6885 and we will be happy to help troubleshoot the system! Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

Can I please get a confirmed answer from a representative of the company -- does the over the counter filter system remove fluoride? There are conflicting answers below and none are from the company reps.

Asked by: xman
Thank you for your interest in Aquasana. The AQ-4000 Countertop system is not NSF certified to reduce or remove fluoride. For 95.7% fluoride reduction, check out our under counter Reverse Osmosis system- http://www.aquasana.com/drinking-water-filter-systems/reverse-osmosis-claryum. Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support
