Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worry-free water Loving the new system. The water tastes clean and smooth (no smell or taste whatsoever). I would recommend having an seasoned plumber do the install. Ours was and it took him and an assistant 3-4 hours. The system takes up nearly half of a standard undersink cabinet so if you have a trash barrel or store lots of items under your sink, thats worth weighing. The water tap is nice and has a simple design that's easy to use. Pressure is moderate so it'll take about 20-30 second day to fill a 12 oz glass.

Easy install though there were a few parts that we had to read reviews about to understand and weren't included in the instructions. These included: 1) Cutting the white plastic spacer for the faucet since our counter was thick 2) Placing the rubber gasket under the faucet 3) Pushing the flow restrictor in all the way into the tube 4) Recutting the tubing with a sharp knife to ensure tight connections Other than that it was a straightforward install with very nice graphical instructions and a helpful video on YouTube. No need to pay a plumber as all but one of the fittings snap together. Self installation also allows one to understand the system itself so if there is a leak in the future you can just analyze, trouble shoot and fix it! There is a slight gargling sound when it is filtering water but that is a non issue for us. We have a dishwasher drain line going to the same pipe and have not had any issues with that creating a clog as other reviewers have mentioned. If this occurs our plan is to insert a coupling into the RO system drain line that allows us access for cleaning periodically. Family loves it, we all use it now and will never go back to using a zero water pitcher. Aqausana's testing tables that they share are top notch and we couldn't be happier!

  1. Do I need a plumber to install the system or can I install it myself?

    Depending on your existing skills and experience, we recommend hiring a professional to install your reverse osmosis system. Installation does require drilling into your pipes which is not recommended for individuals unfamiliar with plumbing and permanent appliance installation. Please read through the owner's manual carefully before attempting to install the system. If you have any questions or need assistance, our technical support representatives at 866-662-6885 can walk you through the installation process.

  2. How often do I have to replace the cartridges and membrane?

    • Stage 1 (Carbon) and Stage 3 (Claryum) filter cartridges should be replaced every 6 months or 365 gallons. To make replacements easier and cheaper, these cartridges are eligible for our Water for Life auto-ship program. Get free shipping, the best discounts, and an extended product warranty by joining Water for Life.
    • We recommend replacing Stage 2 (RO Membrane) every 2 years depending on usage and water quality. For homes with higher water usage and/or poorer water quality, you may need to replace your RO membrane every 1 to 2 years. For homes with lower water usage and/or better water quality, you may only need to replace your RO membrane every 2 to 3 years.
    • We recommend replacing the remineralizer every 1 year depending on usage and water quality.

  3. Is this purified water?

    Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O uses reverse osmosis to effectively purify your drinking water. In addition to reverse osmosis, the OptimH2O system also uses selective filtration to reduce over 70 other contaminants, plus includes a remineralizer designed to put back healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium that are removed in the reverse osmosis process.

  4. I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. What should I do?

    Unfortunately, drilling into your water pipes is required to install the Aquasana OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis system. If you already have an existing hole for a vegetable sprayer or soap dispenser on your sink countertop, our AQ-5200 and AQ-5300 Under Counter Drinking Water Systems can be installed without making permanent changes to your sink and are great options for rental properties. If there is not an existing hole on your sink countertop, we also have two countertop options that offer the same professional grade filtration as our under counter options (please see the Clean Water Machine or AQ-4000).

  5. I have an existing filtration or side faucet from a previous system. Can I use that with my new Aquasana water filter?

    The faucet included with the Aquasana OptimH2O is specifically designed and NSF tested and certified to work with our reverse osmosis system — any other Aquasana faucet or faucet from another filtration system not designed to work with a reverse osmosis system will not work for the Aquasana OptimH2O and may cause damage to your filtration system. If you choose to use another reverse osmosis air gap faucet, we recommend you enlist the help of a plumber to ensure proper installation.

  6. Why is it important to flush my OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis System during the initial installation?

    When RO membranes are manufactured, there is a preservative used to protect the membrane fibers from damage. This preservative needs to be flushed out after the system is installed and prior to drinking water from the RO system. In addition, the RO holding tank should be sanitized with a drop of bleach during the install. It is important to flush the system for the entire 24 hours during the initial install to ensure all the bleach from the holding tank is washed away before consumption.

  7. What does TDS mean?

    TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Aquasana OptimH2O comes standard with a 1 year remineralizer designed to replace healthy calcium, magnesium, and potassium lost in the reverse osmosis process.

  8. Does the Aquasana OptimH2O remove fluoride?

    Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O is NSF Certified to remove over 95% of fluoride from your drinking water.

  9. Does the Aquasana OptimH2O remove arsenic?

    Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O is NSF Certified to remove over 97% of arsenic from your drinking water.

Yes.  I donot recommend it. The dirty sink water always back flow to the aquasana faucet.we called aquasana many times but they did not know how to correct it. They recommended us to purchase some sort of valve from amazon to fix this.

Can we order this without the faucet? we have a matte black faucet and would like to get a separate filter faucet to match.

i wasn't able to order it without the faucet, but i did use my regular faucet when i installed the RO system. On cold water it was filtered water and on on the hot side it was regular water. The benefit is that the hot water ran much faster because Reverse Osmosis pushes the water out much more slowly and at my house because hot water takes a minute to get to that faucet, you could get cold water out of the hot side of the faucet for a minute at higher pressure.

Is it possible to hook an under counter RO directly to a refrigerator without having a faucet?   i have a drain near the fridge, so that is ok.  My Fridge is not near my sink, so can’t serve both faucet and fridge with a single RO.  Will need 2 systems.

Kevo, Thank you for your email. Yes, you can have it going to the fridge directly or have it tee-d off, but we always advise that you might have a pressure drop. You can purchase a quick connect fitting from Home Depot or Lowe's, and connect the Tee-fitting to the outlet that goes into the faucet. Unfortunately we cannot make any other recommendations on what to use to connect it to the refrigerator being that our systems are not manufactured to connect with refrigerators/ice makers. hi, I have a Aquasana RO system. But from the day one, the water leaks from the faucet. Every day after we take an amount of water, there is this air release from the side of the faucet and water leaks as well. How to fix this.

How do you install this if there is already an existing air gap for the dish washer in the one hole there is. There aren't any other holes to use for the new water faucet. Making another hole is not an option as it is a Kohler ceramic sink. Thanks

does someone come and install the system also?

We do work with a network of plumbers across the US who are familiar with and/or certified to install our systems. Can this be installed in an apartment I rent?

Hello, Unfortunately, drilling into your water pipes is required to install the Aquasana OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis system. If you already have an existing hole for a vegetable sprayer or soap dispenser on your sink countertop, our AQ-5200 and AQ-5300 Under Counter Drinking Water Systems can be installed without making permanent changes to your sink and are great options for rental properties. If there is not an existing hole on your sink countertop, we also have two countertop options that offer the same professional grade filtration as our under counter options (please see the Powered Water Filtration System or AQ-4000).
