Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install, no plumbing experience needed! I bought this as a recommendation to rid my drinking water from PFAS (currently a huge issue in Michigan). I am thrilled on how easy it was to install. As a women I would not say I am mechanically inclined, but I installed it easily in an afternoon without help and using relatively simple hand tools. Our sink had a hole already predrilled which worked perfectly for the faucet. The finish matches the sink and looks like it was there from the very start. This also produces the best tasting water that I have ever had. Plus knowing it is free of basically everything is wonderful too. I use this for cooking, making tea or coffee, and of course for drinking and even watering my plants which need rainwater. So far no complaints and no leaks! Looking forward to the next 6 months without worry. Plus having the Water For Life subscription lowers the price of the filters and I don't have to worry about not having them on hand when they need replacing. This is by far easier than remembering to fill a pitcher every time you want filtered water. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe drinking water This is my 3rd Aquasana 3 stage under the sink water filter. The first one I had was a 2 stage and as soon as you came out with the 3 stage I ordered it. When my daughter bought her home I purchased one for her and my son recently purchased his home and of course I got him one. All have the water for life so no worries about having filters on hand. Easy install and worry free from drinking or cooking with water contaminents.

The best part was all needed installation adapters, screws, hoses included didn't need a trip to hardware store, that's the best. Works excellent and very convenient, allowed us to get rid of counter top filter appliance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy with our Aquasana We are really happy with our new Filter system. It was fairly easy to install as long as you don't forget to pull the little tabs when your done. We thought the filter was faulty for several days, until my husband figured it out, he had pulled one of them out and forgotten the other one. Once that was done, we saw noticeable results right away. Living in an area where water quality isn't great, I feel so much better knowing we are protected with clean safe water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tasting water I’ve had 2 stage under counter system for 15 years and love it. The water tastes as good as Fiji bottled water and no plastic bottles sitting in landfills! Will upgrade to 3 stage soon since it wasn’t an option back in the day. You will not regret this purchase. My 15 year old dog drinks it too. Filters auto shipped every 6 months is convenient too.

Aquasana FAQs

  1. Do I have to pay for a plumber to install the system?

Our under counter drinking water filter systems are very easy to install, and it only takes a few minutes to do; no plumber is necessary. If you have any questions or need assistance, our technical support representatives at 866-662-6885 can walk you through the installation process.

  2. How often do I have to replace the cartridges and how much do they cost?

We recommend replacing the cartridges after six months or the specified gallon capacity to prevent the growth of bacteria in the system. The AQ-5100 Single Stage has a capacity of 200 gallons, the AQ-5200 Two-Stage has a capacity of 500 gallons, the AQ-5300 Three-Stage has a capacity of 600 gallons and the AQ-5300+ Three-Stage has a capacity of 800 gallons. Replacement filters cost $29.99 for the AQ-5100, $59.99 for the AQ-5200, $64.99 for the AQ-5300 or $79.99 for the AQ-5300+, but you can save 15%, get free shipping, and extend your product warranty by signing up for our no-contract auto-ship filter replacement program, Water for Life. The performance indicating device on the AQ-5200, AQ-5300 and AQ-5300+ systems will sound a beeping alarm and flash red when it is time to change your cartridges. The AQ-5300+ also contains Bluetooth connectivity so you can download our iPhone App and get alerts for when it is time to change your cartridges and even order new replacements straight from the App!

  3. Is this purified water?

No, and actually, purified water is not as healthy as filtered water. Purified water undergoes reverse osmosis or distillation, which strip everything out of your water - not only the contaminants, but also the healthy, natural minerals. Our system uses selective filtration designed to reduce contaminants from the water and leave in the natural healthy minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

  4. How do I recycle the replacement filters?

We have designed this system to minimize the environmental impact of our replacement elements, which are over 95% biodegradable carbon. Our company will recycle the filters for you, but we do not cover the shipping cost to return the filters back to us. In reality, the environmental impact of shipping the filters back to us outweighs the good of recycling. To recycle the drinking filters yourself, remove the ends of the filters, recycle the plastic parts (which are appropriately numbered) and put the carbon either in your compost pile or garden (carbon is good for plant life), or just throw it out (since the carbon degrades quickly, and is a positive component in a landfill).

  5. I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. What should I do?

To install an under counter system, you can remove the existing sprayer or soap dispenser on your sink and install our faucet in its place. This option will not damage or permanently modify your plumbing. When you move out, you can easily remove the system and reconnect your plumbing back to normal. If you do not have an existing hole in your sink from a sprayer or soap dispenser, we also have a countertop drinking water filter that conveniently screws on to most kitchen faucets.

  6. What is the size of the brass T-fitting for under counter and premium under counter unit?

The most common size is 3/8" which originally comes with the system purchase. In rare cases some customers may need a 1/2" T-fitting which is sold separately and is available for purchase through technical support.

  7. What size hole do I need in my sink for the under counter and premium under counter systems?

The faucet that is included with our systems requires a 1/2" hole.

  8. What does TDS mean?

TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

  9. What is BPA? And why are people concerned about it?

BPA stands for Bisphenol-A, a contaminant found in most plastics. BPA can adversely affect your health if consumed at high levels. Aquasana drinking systems do not contain BPA, and our filtration process reduces existing BPA.

  10. Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

Hard water is more of a nuisance than a health risk, and is not necessarily contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Hard water is generally safe to drink, after it has been properly treated.

  11. What is soft water, and is it safe to drink?

Having soft water just means you have a lower concentration of dissolved minerals in the water (primarily calcium and magnesium). Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still contain contaminants.

  12. What is selective filtration, and how do Aquasana systems filter drinking water?

Selective filtration is the process of sub-micron filtration, micron filtration, adsorption and ion exchange, all of which selectively reduces chemicals, heavy particulates and most dangerous heavy metals from the water while maintaining healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium and potassium.

  13. What is the difference between the single-stage, 2-stage and 3-stage under counter systems?

All of our drinking water systems use the same Aquasana Claryum® filtration technology. The single-stage system lasts 6 months or 200 gallons before the cartridges need to be replaced. Our 2- Stage system has a higher capacity than the single-stage, giving you 6 months or 500 gallons of clean, filtered water. The 3-Stage system includes a 20 micron pre-filter before the two Aquasana Claryum® filters. This pre-filter increases the capacity of the system from 500 gallons to 600 gallons. In addition, it improves flow rate in high sediment areas. The 3-Stage Max Flow system adds even more capacity to 800 gallons, a 44% increase in flow rate at .72 gallons per minute and Bluetooth connectivity for filter tracking.

  14. I have an existing side faucet from a previous system. Can I use that with my new Aquasana water filter?

We recommend that you use the faucet provided. We have extensively tested the system with the faucets included. The faucets are NSF Certified to have no lead content. In addition, they will not impart any unwanted chemicals into your water. If you choose to use another faucet, we recommend that you have a plumber install the system to ensure no leakage occurs. We also recommend that you install an NSF Certified faucet to ensure the health benefits of your new Aquasana water filter.

I have a 3 stage under counter filter. What would be the grains of hardness in this filtered water?

Asked by: Berly
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are the total amount of mobile charged ions, including minerals, salts or metals dissolved in a given volume of water, expressed in units of mg per unit volume of water (mg/L), also referred to as parts per million (ppm). Aquasana water filters are not designed to reduce the TDS in your water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals in your water but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana systems remove harmful TDS, like dissolved lead, but because our selective filtration leaves in calcium, magnesium, and potassium, and minerals are dissolved solids, there will still be a measurable amount of TDS in your filtered water. TDS can also increase during the Potassium Ion Exchange Process. In order to remove lead and mercury, the Aquasana Filtration system has to exchange it for potassium. For every lead Ion removed, two potassium ions are added to the water. So a TDS reading has nothing to do with the chemicals that are being removed. which you can see here: http://cdn.aquasana.com/assets/AQ-5300_Performance_Data.pdf This is another link that may be helpful in answering your question: http://www.aquasana.com/education/tds-meter-what-is-it-and-do-you-need-it

I am interested in buying the under-sink filtration system but do not have a hole in the sink for a faucet. If I drill a hole for your faucet, what size and shape (circular, elliptical?) should it be? Thanks, JJ California.

Asked by: JJ California
The faucet may be mounted on the sink using an existing circular hole for a sprayer nozzle or soap dispenser, or by drilling a hole at least 1/2” in diameter. Be sure the location of the faucet allows the spout to extend slightly past the edge of the sink. Note: we recommend enlisting the services of an approved or certified professional if drilling is required.

I have a granite countertop without an extra hole. Is there any way to attach this to an existing faucet? Or, do you you have another suggestion? Does this filter out fluoride?

Asked by: Mezzo
Thank you for your inquory. The system coes with a small cold water faucet to be installed with the syste. You may use the existing extra hole you have. It is not deisgned to be used with the main faucet, as hot water should not be filtered through the system. It degrades the carbon at an accelerated rate. Tihe 3-stage system does not remove fluoride. However our Reverse Osmosis system does, and has a similar setup. You can review the RO system at: https://www.aquasana.com/drinking-water-filter-systems/reverse-osmosis-claryum I have also attached a photo of the setup so you can get an idea, just click on the photo below. I drink about 30 liters per month, I'm always away from home. I calculated about 18 months. How to know that I am drinking filtered water after 1 year? If I replace the battery, does the sequence continue or does it restart?

Asked by: Beto
We recommed changing the fiters on the 3-Stage system every six months. We base our estimates and requirements on the testing done by the NSF. In the case of our filtration systems, it is not always necessarily the amount of water that has passed through the system, but the amount of time that the filters have been in contact with Water. Keep in mind that while you may be using a minimal amount of water, the filters are constantly soaking in the water, waiting for a valve to open, and the water to resume flowing. We make suggestions based on the safest and healthiest way to maintain our systems. Once the filter starts to degrade due to elongated contact with water, you risk bacteria and mold growing inside the filter and the system: Heterotrophs (heterotrophic bacteria) are a group of microorganisms (yeast, molds & bacteria) that use organic carbon as food (as opposed to autotrophs like algae that use sunlight) and are found in every type of water.

Is there an indicator or alarm that says when to change the filters? I am only 1 person, so my usage will be minimal. What is the purpose of the battery?

Asked by: DebD
Yes. I have only changed mine once, but I think when you turn the water off, there is a brief sound. I put a label on mine when I installed it and it was about dead on 6 months. We use it a lot. It's plumbed to our ice maker and our sink, plus I give our three dogs filtered water. Personally, I would not wait longer after 6 months, because I suspect the filtration media may start to break down. Just my opinion.
