Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yes Aquasana filters are a great product and simple to install and maintain. I really like have a salt free water softener because we have an on site septic system as salt is bad for septic systems it causes hard pan in the soil. I also like how long the main filters last and the filter cartridges are easy to replace

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working well so far This is a good value for the money. The hard part is that I'm not handy enough to install it myself and it was very difficult to find a plumber who would install it at a reasonable price. Now that I'm past the installation, the use should be pretty easy. Ask me again in a year and I'll tell you for sure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Commercial application for steam humidifiers We started using these units to reduce the scaling effects inside the steam canisters of humidifiers in our labs. The humidifiers are necessary to maintain proper production environment to eliminate static electricity problems in our operations . The canisters were loading up with scale very fast and they are expensive to replace. We needed something that would reduce scaling without actually removing too much of the mineral content, because the steam process is electrolytic and needs the minerals in the water to maintain conductivity. By pretreating the water supply line with these units, our scaling problem is greatly reduced.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as expected It works but not 100%. The water in Brookfield CTis super hard and with this softener we still get about half the hard water deposits plus the fact that the broken down molecules travel back into the water is not helpful. I still can not run the dish washer without spots and if i boil the water the pot is chalky white. Maybe the traditional salt softener would have been a better choice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I guess it's doing what it's supposed to do? No way to tell. They claim it prevents scale. There is no way to determine if it is actually working. I recommend to the company that they invent some sort of visual test device. For example, a copper pipe with clear window before and after the unit. You look in the window and see buildup in the pipe before the unit, and that it isn't happening to the pipe after the unit. But other than that, it's completely a "trust me" situation.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pro Well Rhino+Conditioner IS NOT A WATER SOFTNER! Salt-free Water Conditioner- prevents minerals from binding and forming scale build-up. Don't be mislead, you STILLneed a water softner with this system if you have HARD WATER, took, 1.5 years to realize that and the damage done is ??? we shall see, all faucets, shower heads clogged and stains on counters now permanent, all started shortly after installing this system, live and learn

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Worked for less than a year. We have had our complete system "softener" (not really) filters (sediment) and whole house the whole kitten kaboudle installed for almost 1 year. Never got rid of calcium spots on the shower glass never got rid of calcium spots on stainless appliances and never got rid of calcium on shower heads/faucets. It did lessen the effects for about 11 months. Now I am starting to get pretty bad calcium build up again.. replacement filter is like 700 bucks???? We spent about $2500 a year ago... Has at most had 100000 gals through the system. I will say this the water doesn't taste like chlorine, but I didn't need to spend this much to make that happen.. very dissatisfied with the long term performance of this system. (I noted difficult to install due to all the cheap plastic.. it took me forever to make it stop leaking)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Does not work for extremely hard water We are in South Texas and have well water.. this softener does nothing for water as hard as we have. I had to reinstall the salt/potassium based one and add a reverse osmosis system to get rid of the salt taste.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Minerals Still Come Through We moved from a house that had a whole house filter system, hoping that the Aquasana Descaler for our new house would help reduce some of the water spotting that we had with the other manufactured system. We didn't want to go with a salt system. As it turns out, even on the same water system, the Aquasana Whole house filter and Descaler does not do as good of a job as the other manufactured product, which was just a filter. Not sure that this Descaler does any more than help reduce scale buildup in the pipes as advertised, but there is no way to know that it does this except for long term use and inspection of the inside of the pipes. We have PEX piping, so not sure if that would happen anyway. In reality, I don't think this Descaler will do anything for us. It does not reduce or eliminate the mineral spotting on fixtures or items washed with the water. We have to wipe down our fixtures, pots/pans, shower doors, and dishwasher of the white residue that shows up after washing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont waste your money I had a normal salt based softener in my old house for 14 years and was still working perfectly when I sold the house. This system is no longer "conditioning" my water after less than 6 months. Everyone I knew told me not to buy this, I didnt listen. I even had to go buy extra parts at the store to have it installed even though I got the premium install kit. Now I have to go spend money on something else.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Salt free softener does not work over 20 grains Salt free softener does not work with our 22 grain hardness water. I was assured before buying it would work. Its more expensive to send it back than to keep it. Cheaper to buy a different water softener elsewhere.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not reduce build up, lots of residue I’m a certified licensed plumber in the province of Manitoba, and from my experience(purchased product) and experiences with this system, is customers are not satisfied, faucet aerators are plugging, fixtures are stained and shower glass very hard to clean, TDS(majority is hardness), still very high post filter, SALT SOFTENER TREATMENT WORKS VERY WELL, And the only way to properly remove calcium and magnesium build up, is get a salt system, you will be way more satisfied.

Aquasana FAQs

  1. How will the water feel on my skin? Is there a slimy feeling?

Because SimplySoft does not replace hard minerals with salt, your water will not feel slimy or slippery as it would with salt-based softeners.

  2. What grains of hardness or grains per gallon (GPG) can SimplySoft handle?

SimplySoft is designed to handle hardness levels below 25 GPG and works best with hardness levels at 15 GPG or below.

  3. Will I use less soap and detergent with SimplySoft?

Yes. Aquasana SimplySoft allows you to reduce your soap and detergent usage by up to 40%, saving you money.

  4. How long will it last?

The SimplySoft EQ-AST-WH is designed to last up to 6 years.

  5. How do I know when to replace it?

It is recommended you change out your SimplySoft tanks every 6 years for optimal performance.

  6. Does it eliminate scaling?

SimplySoft is designed to prevent the harmful effects of scale buildup in internal pipes and plumbing. Our system uses your water's flow to alter the charge of hard mineral ions so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, SimplySoft does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce buildup.

  7. Will the system reduce my hardness or TDS levels?

No. Our system uses your water's flow to alter the charge of hard mineral ions so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, SimplySoft does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce scaling. Because hard minerals are not replaced by salt or other chemicals, TDS levels will still remain the same even though scale formation is inhibited and SimplySoft is working to protect your internal plumbing.

  8. I still see calcium deposits on my dishes. Is my salt-free conditioner working?

Yes. Unlike salt-based softeners that replace minerals like calcium with salt, SimplySoft instead uses the flow of your water to alter the charge of hard minerals so they do not bind to one another to create scale. Because SimplySoft alters the charge of hard minerals to inhibit scale formation and does not replace them with salt or chemicals, hard minerals remain in your water and will pass safely through your pipes and down the drain. If the calcium levels in your water are high enough, harmless calcium spots can still occur on areas where water is left sitting and can evaporate, leaving hard mineral deposits behind on surfaces like glassware, countertops, pots, pans, chrome faucets or stainless steel. SimplySoft is designed to protect the internal pipes and plumbing in your home from harmful scale buildup.

  9. What is hard water?

Hard water contains a higher than average amount of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium), and a higher concentration of multivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+). Hard water is mostly a nuisance as these dissolved minerals can clump together to produce scale, which can harm your internal pipes, plumbing, and home appliances.

  10. Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

No, hard water is more of a nuisance than a health issue, and is not considered contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Is hard water safe to drink? Yes, hard water is healthy enough to drink.

  11. Does having soft water mean it is clean water?

Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still have contaminants present in the water. Is it safe to drink? Yes, soft water is considered potable as long as the water has not passed through a sodium-based water softener. Drinking water from a sodium-based softener increased your daily intake of sodium, which can lead to health problems in sodium-sensitive individuals.

  12. What is a salt-based water softener?

A salt-based water softener is a system designed to remove/reduce calcium and magnesium from the water by exchanging it with sodium. This is done through an ion exchange resin that alters the molecular structure of the calcium and magnesium from a divalent ion to a univalent ion, making the water "softer." Do softeners reduce chemical contamination? Softeners do not remove chemical contamination themselves, but softeners sometimes have a carbon filter working in conjunction with the softener to treat contamination.

  13. Do I need a licensed plumber to install the whole house filter?

Yes, Aquasana recommends you have a licensed plumber install the system for you, to ensure that the system is installed properly. Since most licensed plumbers carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error, having a licensed plumber install the system for you will give you the security that the work was done properly and that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan. Not having the system installed by a licensed plumber will void the warranty of all our whole house filter systems.

User Q & A

If you're system doesn't remove calcium, what do I need for a high calcium well? Additionally what product to remove rotten egg smell?

Asked by: Bob the plumber
Hello, Thank you for contacting us. Sulfur or “rotten-egg” odors can develop in water heaters and in corroded iron piping. The incidence of rotten egg odor or black water in water lines is due to the reaction of sulfates and microorganisms in water. To determine the source of the odor, it is important to check to see whether the cold water contains odor or just the hot water. If the hot water alone has an odor, then the odor is occurring primarily in the water heater. If your well has high levels of Sulphur and/or iron, you will need an Iron Filtration tank to reduce the levels in your water. We recommend getting an iron rival that is designed to handle higher levels of iron intake. https://www.home-water-purifiers-and-filters.com/iron-filter-birm.php Thank you, Customer Support

I also have an ongoing problem with calcium build up in 2 of my bathrooms. How do I determine if the system is working?

Asked by: SJean
The mineral make up of the water is not changed. It’s an ionic process that scrambles the mineral content. You will still get water spots on a shower door and calcium build up, it will be less and easier to tackle. The soft water is really beneficial for your skin and hair.

Can your salt free water conditioner be used with a osmosis system. To remove traces of arsenic from our well water?

Asked by: Anthony J
Hello,   Thank your for your interest in Aquasana. The Whole Home system does not remove fluoride or arsenic. Both require Reverse Osmosis to be removed/reduced from water. We do offer a Point of Use Reverse Osmosis for your drinking water, and many of our Whole Home customers purchase it in combination.   You may read more about our Reverse Osmosis system at: https://www.aquasana.com/drinking-water-filter-systems/reverse-osmosis-claryum If you are interested in a system, please call 866.662.6885 or e-mail sales@aquasana.com and a representative will be happy to discuss your needs and options.   Thank you,   Aquasana Support
