Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great system! I am very pleased with my whole house system designed for well water. The installation was not complicated and the taste of my water has significantly improved. I’m confident in my overall water quality. I also like that the system will be easy to maintain. Customer service was excellent throughout the entire process. I highly recommend this system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent System I installed whole house of Pro Rhino Whole House Water Filter system by my self. By the way, I am NOT a professional plumber, but DIY is not too complicated for this system as they provide most essential hardware. Few necessary plumbing tools are required. No pressure drop problem with water flow after installed. Few comments: 1. I changed all of the schedule 80 PVC piping fittings which AQUASANA supplied for free to cooper PEX fittings. Recommend to replace them all to the owners/users. I don't think it is good & health if using schedule 80 PVC piping fittings, such as unions, connectors etc., and they are NOT NSF certified. Also I don't like some schedule 80 PVC piping fittings which have to use PVC cement for the connection. Threaded piping connectors are better then glued on. You Must use NSF approved cement rather than plumbing's one. 2. Found the post-filter core is about 1/16" too tall. It might be leaking when you installation or replacing this filter. 3. It is perfect if they can offer an optional filter body with clear material so that it is visible how bad the filter is for indoor user.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What I have been looking for!!! We are first time home buyers and had been looking for a way to have clean water at home without breaking the breaking the bank. This system has exceeded our expectations and we could not be happier. System was easy to install with proper tools and some guidance from my parents who also have the same system in their home. Definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Once again we have confidence in safe water We are enjoying our new water filter because it gives us a peace of mind knowing that our water is free of contaminants that our water company has been cited for being in violation. It was challenging finding a licensed plumber in our area who was willing to install the filter but the search was worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from just WOW Our water has never been as clean. Out of the shower I feel cleaner than I ever have and the taste of the water is perfect! Our water supply is very heavily chlorinated and the smell from the tap was unbearable, but not any more. Installatioin was a breeze as well, thanks for including everything that's needed. Thanks again, Aquasana. We will definitely be recommending this filter to my neighbors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We love it. You have to purchase the salt free conditioner along with the Rhino filter. The calcium and iron in our water is so bad, we were using citric acid for pickling to clean the inside of our dishwasher on a regular basis. I am happy to report we no longer need to clean off white residue. You can image how much we are saving on bottled water. The installation was not difficult at all. You could hire a plumber, but the instructions and video made the process a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NEVER live without it I have the Rhino at my third house now - Pompano Beach, Florida. I'm originally from Denmark and used to the world's finest tap water (literally). I am unable to even brush my teeth with tap water smelling and tasting like chlorine. I happily drink water directly from the tap with this whole house filter. 6 month ago I had a small issue and the customer service was swift and fixed everything. Happy client here - since 2013.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from +++'s for Tucson water After a month the system is apparently giving us the promised results - clear good tasting scaleless water. I replaced the pre-filter after this initial month of use - any apprehension I may have had about the systems performance as related to our new quality of water has now been set aside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Satisfied So far so good! Have installed the Pro Rhino in a new house & existing 25yr old house. The owners at the new house love it due to the fact ALL of their water is filtered & no softener is needed. At the existing house which is mine, we did not have a working softener for the last ten yrs. So after 1 week the water quality is improved immensely and loving it. Water itch after bathing has decreased significantly. I'm using my home as a test with this product as to water clarity before/after also to see if the lime/scale build up in the toilets, faucets, shower heads, etc. goes away with use. Not to mention "NO 50lb BAGS OF SALT" anymore! No more water regeneration, water being wasted down the drain! All of this and at a very reasonable price! Will be adding more in the future at the time of filter replacements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love our new whole house water filter and softener Really makes an enormous difference on our water quality that we can feel, see and taste. Installation took some time primarily to route into specific area in garage and had it installed with PVC instead of Pex tubing. Really happy with our purchase of this product while pre-filters the water, softens the water and removes contaminants. Our dishwasher no longer shows any calcium or residue deposits after washing dishes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Athlete drink lots of water,NOW I DRINK MUCH MORE! Our family is all about being healthy...Seeking a Perfect Water Filtration System for my home began with lots of research, which led to clear evidence-based results showing Aquasana as the best Water Filtration System for my family... Not to mention that when we sell the home, I will emphasize the health quotient a whole house filtration system brings to the new owners. The addition of this whole house unit has everyone drinking much, much, more... And believe it or not, we have bought 2.5-gallon jugs of so-called Spring Water for more years than I want to mention (ok 15 plus) ... and the money weekly for water you hope is pure. After ordering and before the filtration system arrived I had access to easy to do install steps (with several pdf, videos and a chat with my rep who was so, so, encouraging) ... Then the system arrived in a couple of days in 3 small boxes... I looked at instructions again to refresh my memory and began the process by flushing the main tanks by hooking up to my hose at the side of the house... This was easy peasy I had picked out an easily accessible location to install the unit in our basement... The option of using pex tubing along with the pro kit (with high-grade parts) to hook up the unit to the water line was an option - but - I decided to bring my friend in who is a plumber to run the copper pipe... It took very little time, and the cost was reasonable... after he installed mine, he said he was going to order a unit for himself. We have had the 600-gallon whole house unit in for over a week and everyone continues to comment, about the taste having no harsh chemical taste, no smell, and that taking a shower is so much different, especially our skin. A win, win, win, for my family... and no question that all my friends will be encouraged to consider Aquasana for themselves... They expect it from me as an athlete, physiologist and health & fitness entrepreneur. Oh, my only regret is not doing this years ago… Thank you for making a product that will bring healthy water into our home and body for many years to come

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well built. water is amazine I had a plumber install it professionally. very little was required extra to buy to install it as we received the professional install kit for free during the holiday sale. it's turned out Florida pool smelling, hard water into non smelling, drinkable water that makes good coffee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even better than expected I was pleasantly surprised. The installation was easy as can be, except for the tight space. The water quality is excellent. There is no smell and it tastes great right out of the faucet. Coffee tastes better too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smell is gone Taste is great. I recently installed our new whole house filtration system. We bought the 600,000 gallon Rhino unit with pre-filter. I was able to install it easily as I was a plumber. The reason we purchased the filter is because our water authority changed the way they treated our water and the new treatment smelled awful. The smell is almost gone and I say almost because I still have not flushed the system completely and some residual odor lingers. The water passes thru another filter in the refrigerator and the taste and smell is awesome. No odor and it tastes like drinking ice cold spring water. We are so happy we purchased the unit. The only question I have is why it was shipped to a residential location with schedule 80 pipe? I purchased all new schedule 40 cpvc fittings at my local home store and installed the unit as shown Very easy very fast, and we are very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I chose to have a licensed plumber install, I also purchased the in instillation kit. Everything went smoothly. The key for me was the plumber and the instillation kit. Very important was to follow instructions to flush filters completely, results were well worth the time. I did build a water shed for the unit, living in Arizona. The garage or basement is also desirable. After building and insulating the shed and fully wrapping the pipes I am very pleased with the quality of the filtration unit. The change in the quality of the water was instant. I came from the mid west and always had a salt water softner. I understand the difference today that slipperly isn't clean it is salt. The softner means as much as the descaler to the softner aspect. I don't have to have a separate filter for my drinking water to remove the salt that I used to put into my water to soften it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good After reading multiple reviews we made our purchase of the 1 million gallon system. I hired a plumber, a very good decision. I don't recommend doing this yourself unless you have the skill set. I don't see any pressure changes as some have suggested, not an issue. It will be interesting to see what the first filter change looks like as we are on a city based system. I also plan on testing our water to compare against the published results, expecting improvements. Thus far, very happy to know we have the filtration system in place.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Removed VOC's We have a well and had to have it water tested when we had our house built. We tested for VOC's and Tricholoroethylene (TCE) and some other VOC's were found in our water. We researched the Aquasana and decided to give it a try. Once installed we sent a new test to the lab. It came back with NO voc's!! It even removed the TCE. We are VERY happy with this product and will probably test our water annually for TCE just to be safe - but it has done the job and gives us peace of mind! My only piece of advice is to save money on the "pro kit" besides the post filter, everything else that comes in the pro kit can be purchased at the hardware store and probably much cheaper. Otherwise - great product, thank you Aquasana for giving us peace of mind in our drinking water!

Aquasana FAQs

  1. What is the difference between city water and well water?

City water is pre-treated to make sure it is free of bacteria, viruses and common contamination sources. City water is regulated so that the contaminants regulated by the EPA fall within or below EPA guidelines. Well water is untreated water from an underground aquifer that is pumped into a house. Well water may contain higher than average levels of iron or sulfur, or other contaminants.

  2. Why are whole house water filters considered point of entry systems?

The filtration system is installed at the point where the main water supply enters the home, delivering filtered water to all subsequent outlets.

  3. What is hard water?

Hard water contains a higher than average amount of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium), and a higher concentration of multivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+). Hard water is mostly a nuisance as these dissolved minerals can clump together to produce scale, which can harm your internal pipes, plumbing, and home appliances.

  4. Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

No, hard water is more of a nuisance than a health issue, and is not considered contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Is hard water safe to drink? Yes, hard water is healthy enough to drink.

  5. What is soft water?

The most recognizable trait of "soft" water is how much more soap lathers, as opposed to hard water, in which soap lathers less due to the higher concentration of minerals. Water softeners reduce the negative effects of dissolved minerals in water that can clump together and produce scale buildup.

  6. Does having soft water mean it is clean water?

Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still have contaminants present in the water. Is it safe to drink? Yes, soft water is considered potable as long as the water has not passed through a sodium-based water softener. Drinking water from a sodium-based softener increased your daily intake of sodium, which can lead to health problems in sodium-sensitive individuals.

  7. What is a salt-based water softener?

A salt-based water softener is a system designed to remove/reduce calcium and magnesium from the water by exchanging it with sodium. This is done through an ion exchange resin that alters the molecular structure of the calcium and magnesium from a divalent ion to a univalent ion, making the water "softer." Do softeners reduce chemical contamination? Softeners do not remove chemical contamination themselves, but softeners sometimes have a carbon filter working in conjunction with the softener to treat contamination.

  8. What type of filtration media do you use in the top tank of the EQ-600 and EQ-1000?

The top tank contains a KDF-55 medium (A mixture of 55% copper and 45% zinc mineral alloy) for the reduction of chlorine and certain heavy metals, as well as a crushed mineral filter stone to enhance the water's pH and control scale on internal plumbing. Both media are bacteriostatic, which means they prohibit bacteria and algae from growing or developing within the system.

  9. What type of filtration media do you use in the top tank of the EQ-WELL-UV?

The EQ-WELL-UV top tank contains a KDF-85 medium (A mixture of 85% copper and 15% zinc mineral alloy) for the reduction of hydrogen sulfide and heavy metals like iron, as well as a crushed mineral filter stone to enhance the water's pH and control scale on internal plumbing. Both media are bacteriostatic, which means they prohibit bacteria and algae from growing or developing within the system.

  10. What is KDF?

KDF stands for kinetic degradation fluxion, which is a redox filtration medium. KDF uses a unique combination of copper and zinc that creates an electrochemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, creating new, harmless molecules and compounds. Free chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. Similarly, some heavy metals* such as copper*, lead*, mercury* and others, cling to the medium's surface, thus being effectively removed from the water supply.

  11. What type of media is used in the bottom tank of the EQ-600 and EQ-1000?

The bottom tank contains a carbonized coconut shell medium that reduces synthetic chemicals and VOCs.

  12. What type of media is used in the bottom tank of the EQ-WELL-UV?

The EQ-WELL-UV bottom tank contains a carbonized coconut shell & catalytic medium that reduces synthetic chemicals, hydrogen sulfide gasses and VOCs.

  13. What percentage of chlorine do Aquasana Whole Home Systems remove and for how long?

The EQ-600 is certified by NSF International to reduce >97% of chlorine for 600,000 gallons or 6 years. The EQ-1000 is also tested to reduce chlorine by >97% for 1,000,000 or 10 years.

  14. Do any of your whole house filters remove calcium?

Our whole house filters do not remove calcium. To reduce calcium or other hard mineral buildup, we offer whole house filter + salt-free conditioner combo systems.

  15. What is the flow rate of aquasana whole house filter systems?

All Aquasana Whole House Systems perform at 7 gallons per minute (gpm).

  16. Will I experience a drop in water pressure after installing the whole house filter?

As long as your home is less than 3500 sq. ft. and you have 3-1/2 bathrooms or fewer, you should not experience any noticeable drops in pressure. If you have a larger home, we can build a custom system to deal with the typical water capacity of your home.

  17. What is chloramine, and do your whole house filters remove it?

Chloramine is a disinfection agent comprised of chlorine + ammonia used as an alternative to chlorine in some city water treatment facilities. They use chloramines for two big reasons: (1) chloramine is less reactive, so it does not create as many disinfection by-products as chlorine, and (2) chloramine is more persistent, and remains in the treated water through the distribution network all the way to the taps in the homes the treatment facility serves. For customers with chloramine in their water, we offer the EQ-400. The EQ-400 features upgraded catalytic activated carbon media , which has a higher surface point and is able to handle the aggressiveness of the chloramine for a longer period of time than the standard coconut shell carbon used in the standard whole house systems. The EQ-400 is available for purchase by calling the Aquasana Water Specialists at 866-662-6885.

  18. Do the whole house systems remove bacteria or viruses?

Our EQ-WELL-UV Well Water Whole House Filter comes standard with the Aquasana UV Filter specifically designed to kill bacteria and viruses. For our city water whole house systems (EQ-600 and EQ-1000) that do not come standard with the UV filter, we offer the UV Filter as an add-on item that easily attaches to any of our whole house filter systems.

  19. Do I need a licensed plumber to install the whole house filter?

Since most licensed plumbers carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error, having a licensed plumber install the system for you will give you the security that the work was done properly and that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan.

  20. Is UV effective against protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia lamblia?

Yes, as a result of recent findings by academic researchers, it has now been proven that UV is the best available technology to treat these protozoan cysts. In addition, the dose levels required to inactivate these cysts are actually quite low: less than 10 mJ/cm2 for 99.9% reduction of both Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia.

  21. Why do I need to disinfect my water supply?

Disinfection is recommended for all water supplies that are not protected by a municipal water source. Unfortunately, due to the uncertainties that exist with our current water supplies, we can no longer rely on the fact that our water supplies "may be safe". By providing your own disinfection, you are taking the responsibility of ensuring the safety of your water supply for you and your family.

  22. Does UV remove E. coli?

Yes, E. coli requires a UV dose of between 6 to 10 mJ/cm2 to achieve a 4-log (99.99%) disinfection. This is well within the capabilities of our UV systems which actually deliver a minimum of 30 mJ/cm2.

  23. Is UV 100% effective?

UV disinfection typically offers a 4-log reduction (99.99%) for both bacteria and most viruses. UV is more effective than chemical disinfection processes at destroying a wide range of viruses.

  24. Do I need to disinfect my municipal water supply?

Our municipalities work very hard to provide safe, disinfected water for their customers. This is quite evident when you consider the difficulties involved in providing safe drinking water through a vast distribution network. If you use water that comes from a municipal water supply and wish to provide your family with added "peace of mind", then we believe a UV system acts as an inexpensive insurance policy against the possibility of drinking bacteriologically contaminated water.

  25. How much does it cost to operate UV systems?

UV systems are extremely economical to operate. A typical 10 gpm whole house UV system operates on the same power requirements as a 40 watt light bulb!

  26. Will UV change the taste of my water?

No, UV is a physical disinfection process. It does not change the taste or odor of the water. It simply provides safe, reliable disinfection and adds nothing to the water.

  27. Should I shut my UV system off when I am not using it?

No, the UV system should be left on whether you are using the water or not. The lamps age regardless of the amount of water drawn through the system. By leaving the unit on, you will eliminate the potential problem of having contamination pass through the system while the unit is off. However, if water is drained from your disinfection system (e.g. winterizing), your UV system must be switched off.

  28. What are the annual maintenance requirements?

UV lamps have a useful life of approximately 9000 hours which means that the lamps require annual replacement. The UV light may offer illumination beyond 1 year, however there will not be enough UV energy to provide adequate disinfection. Proper maintenance of any pre-treatment is also required. The sleeve should be cleaned at least once a year.

  29. Do I need to consider the quality of my water prior to the UV?

Yes, our UV filter is designed for water that has already been filtered through a home filtration system and not as a standalone unit. For UV to be effective, it is recommended that the influent water contain the following:
    • Iron < 0.3 ppm (0.3 mg/L) • Manganese < 0.05 ppm (0.05 mg/L) • Hardness < 7gpg
    • Tannins < 0.1 ppm (0.1 mg/L) • Turbidity < 1NTU • UV transmittance > 75%

The says it has a 6 year life span. Does that mean you have to replace the whole system every 6 years? Or is that just the warranty?

I am on city water; it tastes fine. I do not want soft water, but I am concerned about scale build-up from lime. What system do I need? How often will I have to change filters? 2 people in house with 2.5 bathrooms and 1 kitchen.

Approximately how often do the filters need to be replaced on a Rhino 600,000 gal.?

Asked by: concernedconsumer
Pre-filter cartridges should be replaced every 2-3 months depending on the sediment in your water. The easiest way to tell is to look at your pre-filter -- when it turns brown, that means it's full of dirt/sediment. Sediment levels can vary from one location to another. During the first year of use, a monthly visual inspection is recommended. Upon initial installation, the sediment filter should be white. Once you can no longer see white, or the flow rate has noticeably decreased, it's time to replace the filter with a new one. Allowing sediment to continue to collect can cause clogging and restrict the flow of water into your home. Post-filters should be replaced every 6-12 months. Replace the post-filter if there is a noticeable reduction of flow through the filter system. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Hope this helps!
