Innovative Salt-Free Softening Technology

Scale Control Media uses water flow to naturally alter the structure of hard mineral ions into a crystal structure that prevents the minerals from binding and forming scale buildup. SCM salt-free softening is proven to reduce scale on internal pipes and plumbing. Unlike salt based softeners, Aquasana SimplySoft will not demineralize your water, harm your pipes with harsh salt, or put excessive amounts of sodium waste into our communal water supply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly pleased. Performs as advertised We conducted extensive research and settled on the Aquasana for our high rise condo in Cape Coral, FL, where the municipal water is deplorable. Our local plumbing contractor recommended and installed the Aquasana Whole House system in a small water heater closet. We added the Sterilight UV Filter, and pre, post, and micron filters. The water taste is excellent - as good or better than any bottled water. We've also observed a noticeable improvement in the laundry, shower, and no hard water deposits/spots on the glass shower doors. The system is far superior to salt based and reverse osmosis systems as it does not waste water in the process. We are completely satisfied with our purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features Pro: I like the Aquasana system for its simplicity, and no salt only filters to change periodically. Con: There weren't any instruction with the system on assembly of the unit, only a colored diagram of the assembled system. There needs to be drains in the bottom of the pre filter and the micron filter to drain the water before changing the filters or the water sprays all over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aquasana EQ-AST-WH Home Water Filter-Softener I've just finished installing the Aquasana EQ-AST-WH whole home water softener system. It works well, however, I've not yet done any water testing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No salt Bought the system to avoid the salt type softener. Been in about 6 weeks and seems to the be working well. We don't have deposits on shower head or fixtures. Dishwasher seems to get a little deposit on the stainless. We have very hard water with calcium and manganese salts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pricing, fast delivery! The system I bought was available quickly and as a separate component as opposed to more complicated systems. I only wanted a soft water (not filtration) system and that is what I got at a great price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Salt! We bought the Salt Free Water Softener recently. We have enjoyed getting soft water again after our previous water softener bit the dust. I like the no salt feature especially.

Aquasana FAQs

  1. How will the water feel on my skin? Is there a slimy feeling?

Because SimplySoft does not replace hard minerals with salt, your water will not feel slimy or slippery as it would with salt-based softeners.

  2. What grains of hardness or grains per gallon (GPG) can SimplySoft handle?

SimplySoft is designed to handle hardness levels below 25 GPG and works best with hardness levels at 15 GPG or below.

  3. Will I use less soap and detergent with SimplySoft?

Yes. Aquasana SimplySoft allows you to reduce your soap and detergent usage by up to 40%, saving you money.

  4. How long will it last?

The SimplySoft EQ-AST-WH is designed to last up to 6 years.

  5. How do I know when to replace it?

It is recommended you change out your SimplySoft tanks every 6 years for optimal performance.

  6. Does it eliminate scaling?

SimplySoft is designed to prevent the harmful effects of scale buildup in internal pipes and plumbing. Our system uses your water's flow to alter the charge of hard mineral ions so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, SimplySoft does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce buildup.

  7. Will the system reduce my hardness or TDS levels?

No. Our system uses your water's flow to alter the charge of hard mineral ions so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, SimplySoft does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce scaling. Because hard minerals are not replaced by salt or other chemicals, TDS levels will still remain the same even though scale formation is inhibited and SimplySoft is working to protect your internal plumbing.

  8. I still see calcium deposits on my dishes. Is my salt-free softener working?

Yes. Unlike salt-based softeners that replace minerals like calcium with salt, SimplySoft instead uses the flow of your water to alter the charge of hard minerals so they do not bind to one another to create scale. Because SimplySoft alters the charge of hard minerals to inhibit scale formation and does not replace them with salt or chemicals, hard minerals remain in your water and will pass safely through your pipes and down the drain. If the calcium levels in your water are high enough, harmless calcium spots can still occur on areas where water is left sitting and can evaporate, leaving hard mineral deposits behind on surfaces like glassware, countertops, pots, pans, chrome faucets or stainless steel. SimplySoft is designed to protect the internal pipes and plumbing in your home from harmful scale buildup.

  9. What is hard water?

Hard water contains a higher than average amount of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium), and a higher concentration of multivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+). Hard water is mostly a nuisance as these dissolved minerals can clump together to produce scale, which can harm your internal pipes, plumbing, and home appliances.

  10. Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

No, hard water is more of a nuisance than a health issue, and is not considered contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Is hard water safe to drink? Yes, hard water is healthy enough to drink.

  11. Does having soft water mean it is clean water?

Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still have contaminants present in the water. Is it safe to drink? Yes, soft water is considered potable as long as the water has not passed through a sodium-based water softener. Drinking water from a sodium-based softener increased your daily intake of sodium, which can lead to health problems in sodium-sensitive individuals.

  12. What is a salt-based water softener?

A salt-based water softener is a system designed to remove/reduce calcium and magnesium from the water by exchanging it with sodium. This is done through an ion exchange resin that alters the molecular structure of the calcium and magnesium from a divalent ion to a univalent ion, making the water "softer." Do softeners reduce chemical contamination? Softeners do not remove chemical contamination themselves, but softeners sometimes have a carbon filter working in conjunction with the softener to treat contamination.

  13. Do I need a licensed plumber to install the whole house filter?

Yes, Aquasana recommends you have a licensed plumber install the system for you, to ensure that the system is installed properly. Since most licensed plumbers carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error, having a licensed plumber install the system for you will give you the security that the work was done properly and that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan. Not having the system installed by a licensed plumber will void the warranty of all our whole house filter systems.

User Q & A

I have a filtration system in my home that takes care of  almost everything. I need just a water softener; ( hard water ) My wife needs her hair to be soft and she doesn’t want to have to clean toilets & sinks as often as she does. Will your system work?

Asked by: Ikey
No, This system does nothing to soften water. It only lets minerals run through pipes without sticking to them. You will still have hard water in your wife's hair, the shower sink, dishwasher, wash machine, hot water heater ect. Basically it will only keep your pipes clean. Any standing or water that evaporates will leave minerals behind.

Do you have local dealers near Huntsville, Tx who can sell and install the device? What is a typical cost for installation?

Asked by: Scott Collier
Scott, Thank you for contacting us! We unfortunately, do not have dealers located in Huntsville, Texas. Because every home is different we cannot provide an estimated rate for installation. The plumber will provide the quote depending on the water entrance to your home and the work needed to install. Thank you, Aquasana

I’d like to use your water softener to replace a salt-softener.  I have 27” of space for it to fit but the water intake and outtake pipes are only 9” apart.  Can I use pipe fittings to use this or does it have to be in a straight line like pictured?

Asked by: Easy Solution
You can put it in any configuration you want as long as you retain the order.. prefilter before the softener. That being said.. We are in South Texas and have well water.. this softener does nothing for water as hard as we have. I had to reinstall the salt/potassium based one and add a reverse osmosis system to get rid of the salt taste.

The info shown says the system lasts six years. does that mean the whole system will need replacing, or just the filters? And at what costs? I am considering replacing my salt based system.

Asked by: Bill Rigdon
You will only be required to replace the main tank once the life of the system is completed. We are unable to determine your specific cost as it would depend on sediment in your water requiring more frequent filter changes, size of your home dictating the type of system needed, etc. On average, filter replacements are less than $100 per year.

I have a very strong sulfer (rotten egg!) smell from my current well water. Will one of the Whole House Water filter systems eliminate this odor?

Asked by: KenE
Our whole home filters will not remove all of the sulfur smell in your water. Activated carbon filters can remove low levels of sulfur sediment, manganese, and iron. However, maintenance and replacement of filter systems are very high because sulfur, iron, manganese and other suspended materials in the water soon clog the filter. And because the levels in well water change, we do manufacture an Iron Filtration tank to deal with these. Please call our office at 866.662.6885 to speak with a representative about our Iron Filtration.

Do I have to replace a filter or something or is it totally maintenance free for 6 years?

Asked by: Ray D
Thank you for your inquiry. The system is maintenance free for 6 years. Once the life of the media expires, you can simply switch out the tank.
