Innovative Salt-Free Softening Technology

Scale Control Media uses water flow to naturally alter the structure of hard mineral ions into a crystal structure that prevents the minerals from binding and forming scale buildup. SCM salt-free softening is proven to reduce scale on internal pipes and plumbing. Unlike salt based softeners, Aquasana SimplySoft will not demineralize your water, harm your pipes with harsh salt, or put excessive amounts of sodium waste into our communal water supply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly pleased. Performs as advertised We conducted extensive research and settled on the Aquasana for our high rise condo in Cape Coral, FL, where the municipal water is deplorable. Our local plumbing contractor recommended and installed the Aquasana Whole House system in a small water heater closet. We added the Sterilight UV Filter, and pre, post, and micron filters. The water taste is excellent - as good or better than any bottled water. We've also observed a noticeable improvement in the laundry, shower, and no hard water deposits/spots on the glass shower doors. The system is far superior to salt based and reverse osmosis systems as it does not waste water in the process. We are completely satisfied with our purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features Pro: I like the Aquasana system for its simplicity, and no salt only filters to change periodically. Con: There weren't any instruction with the system on assembly of the unit, only a colored diagram of the assembled system. There needs to be drains in the bottom of the pre filter and the micron filter to drain the water before changing the filters or the water sprays all over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aquasana EQ-AST-WH Home Water Filter-Softener I've just finished installing the Aquasana EQ-AST-WH whole home water softener system. It works well, however, I've not yet done any water testing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No salt Bought the system to avoid the salt type softener. Been in about 6 weeks and seems to the be working well. We don't have deposits on shower head or fixtures. Dishwasher seems to get a little deposit on the stainless. We have very hard water with calcium and manganese salts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent pricing, fast delivery! The system I bought was available quickly and as a separate component as opposed to more complicated systems. I only wanted a soft water (not filtration) system and that is what I got at a great price.

Aquasana FAQs

  1. How will the water feel on my skin? Is there a slimy feeling?

Because SimplySoft does not replace hard minerals with salt, your water will not feel slimy or slippery as it would with salt-based softeners.

  2. What grains of hardness or grains per gallon (GPG) can SimplySoft handle?

SimplySoft is designed to handle hardness levels below 25 GPG and works best with hardness levels at 15 GPG or below.

  3. Will I use less soap and detergent with SimplySoft?

Yes. Aquasana SimplySoft allows you to reduce your soap and detergent usage by up to 40%, saving you money.

  4. How long will it last?

The SimplySoft EQ-AST-WH is designed to last up to 6 years.

  5. How do I know when to replace it?

It is recommended you change out your SimplySoft tanks every 6 years for optimal performance.

  6. Does it eliminate scaling?

SimplySoft is designed to prevent the harmful effects of scale buildup in internal pipes and plumbing. Our system uses your water's flow to alter the charge of hard mineral ions so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, SimplySoft does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce buildup.

  7. Will the system reduce my hardness or TDS levels?

No. Our system uses your water's flow to alter the charge of hard mineral ions so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, SimplySoft does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce scaling. Because hard minerals are not replaced by salt or other chemicals, TDS levels will still remain the same even though scale formation is inhibited and SimplySoft is working to protect your internal plumbing.

  8. I still see calcium deposits on my dishes. Is my salt-free softener working?

Yes. Unlike salt-based softeners that replace minerals like calcium with salt, SimplySoft instead uses the flow of your water to alter the charge of hard minerals so they do not bind to one another to create scale. Because SimplySoft alters the charge of hard minerals to inhibit scale formation and does not replace them with salt or chemicals, hard minerals remain in your water and will pass safely through your pipes and down the drain. If the calcium levels in your water are high enough, harmless calcium spots can still occur on areas where water is left sitting and can evaporate, leaving hard mineral deposits behind on surfaces like glassware, countertops, pots, pans, chrome faucets or stainless steel. SimplySoft is designed to protect the internal pipes and plumbing in your home from harmful scale buildup.

  9. What is hard water?

Hard water contains a higher than average amount of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium), and a higher concentration of multivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+). Hard water is mostly a nuisance as these dissolved minerals can clump together to produce scale, which can harm your internal pipes, plumbing, and home appliances.

  10. Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?

No, hard water is more of a nuisance than a health issue, and is not considered contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Is hard water safe to drink? Yes, hard water is healthy enough to drink.

  11. Does having soft water mean it is clean water?

Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still have contaminants present in the water. Is it safe to drink? Yes, soft water is considered potable as long as the water has not passed through a sodium-based water softener. Drinking water from a sodium-based softener increased your daily intake of sodium, which can lead to health problems in sodium-sensitive individuals.

  12. What is a salt-based water softener?

A salt-based water softener is a system designed to remove/reduce calcium and magnesium from the water by exchanging it with sodium. This is done through an ion exchange resin that alters the molecular structure of the calcium and magnesium from a divalent ion to a univalent ion, making the water "softer." Do softeners reduce chemical contamination? Softeners do not remove chemical contamination themselves, but softeners sometimes have a carbon filter working in conjunction with the softener to treat contamination.

  13. Do I need a licensed plumber to install the whole house filter?

Yes, Aquasana recommends you have a licensed plumber install the system for you, to ensure that the system is installed properly. Since most licensed plumbers carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error, having a licensed plumber install the system for you will give you the security that the work was done properly and that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan. Not having the system installed by a licensed plumber will void the warranty of all our whole house filter systems.

Do I have to replace a filter or something or is it totally maintenance free for 6 years?

Asked by: Ray D
You should replace the paper first stage filter (the small canister) at least once a year, but every 6 months is recommended depending on family size and use.

Will this filter remove excessive Iron from Well Water. I have a salt system that I am backflushing 3x per week and using about 70 lbs of salt per week. My water is still not good, leaving stains on sinks and toilets.

Asked by: Robert W
Activated carbon filters can remove low levels of iron. However, maintenance and replacement of filter systems are very high because iron can clog your filter. And because the levels in well water change, we do manufacture an Iron Filtration tank to deal with these. Please call our office at 866.662.6885 to speak with a representative about our Iron Filtration. Please let me know if you are interested in the iron tank and I will have someone reach out to you. I am also including some other solutions for you at the following link: https://www.extension.purdue.edu/extmedia/wq/wq-11.html

How and where do you install it, do you have your own professionals that will do this?

Asked by: Glenn P.
We are the manufacturer and distributor but we do not have installation technicians in the field. We do work with a network of plumbers across the US who are familiar with and/or certified to install our systems. Please contact us at support@aquasana.com with your city, state and zip code and we will be happy to check for anyone in your area.

How often do the filters have to be changed

Asked by: johnny 2 times
Pre-filters cartridges should be replaced every 2-3 months depending on the sediment in your water. The easiest way to tell is to look at your pre-filter and when it turns brown it is full of dirt/sediment. Sediment levels vary from one location to another. During the first year of use, a visual inspection monthly is recommended. The sediment pre-filter is white when you initially install it. Once you can no longer see white, or the flow rate has noticeably decreased, it is time to replace the filter with a new one. Allowing sediment to continue to collect can cause clogging and restrict the flow of water into your home. Post-filters should be replaced every 6 months. Replace the post-filter if there is a noticeable reduction of flow through the filter system.
