HealthShield™ Whole House Water Filter
FAQ
Aquasana FAQs
1. What's the flow rate of the HealthShield™ whole house filter?

The HealthShield™ whole house filter has a flow rate of 5.7 gallons per minute (gpm). True flow rates will vary with influent water pressure. Most homes use only 2 to 3 GPM the majority of the time.

The performance indicator included in the HealthShield™ installation kit displays the current flow rate running through the system. The PID display will also show the remaining capacity in gallons.

HealthShield™ system uses a specialized blend of three advanced medias layers designed to target a wide range of contaminants.

The first filtration layer is engineered for highly efficient reduction of chlorine and chloramines to improve water taste and odor. The second layer is designed to help enhance PFAS* reduction, including difficult-to-reduce short-chain PFAS compounds. The third layer helps reduce additional contaminants such as VOCs, ibuprofen, BPA, and PFAS for more comprehensive whole home water filtration.

The HealthShield™ is internally tested to remove 97.4% of chlorine for 165,000 gallons.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of widely used, long-lasting chemicals that break down very slowly over time. Because of their durability and widespread use, PFAS are now found throughout the environment — including in water, air, soil, and even in fish and other wildlife across the globe.

These chemicals have been used in a wide range of consumer, commercial, and industrial products, which has led to their presence in many food products and in the blood of both people and animals worldwide.

There are thousands of different PFAS compounds, making them complex to study and regulate. While research is ongoing, some scientific studies have linked exposure to certain PFAS to potential harmful health effects in humans and animals.

PFAS chemicals are nicknamed “forever chemicals” because they don't break down naturally, persisting in the environment and accumulating in the human body over time.

The HealthShield™ system is WQA tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 53 to remove 99.9% of PFAS* to below 4 parts per trillion.

Chloramines are a disinfection agent comprised of chlorine and ammonia used as an alternative to chlorine in some city water treatment facilities. The HealthShield™ whole house system is internally tested to remove 97.49% of chloramines.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, VOCs, also known as “Volatile organic compounds,” are chemicals that easily evaporate into the air from everyday products like paints, cleaning supplies, fuels, and building materials. They are commonly found indoors, often at higher levels than outdoors, and can come from thousands of household and industrial products.

Some VOCs may have short- or long-term health effects, which is why they are a common concern in both indoor air and water quality.

The HealthShield™ system is WQA tested and certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 53 to remove 99.8% of VOCs.

Yes, this system requires a 120V/60Hz power outlet for the performance indicator, located within ten feet of the unit to ensure the power cord can reach.

HealthShield has a color-coded display for easy evaluation of maintenance needs. When the system is at 10-100% remaining capacity, the lower part of the display will be green, and will require you to touch the screen to activate it. Once the system has 0-10% remaining capacity, the display will always be on, and the lower part will be yellow. Once the system has reached capacity, the display will always be on, and the lower part of the display will be red.

The PID display will also show the remaining capacity in gallons and the current flow rate of water through the system.

The HealthShield™ installation kit includes a PID (performance indicator) that has a color-coded display that tells you when it's time to replace your filter. When the tank is between 0%-10% of the remaining capacity, the display will show yellow. Once the tank is ready for replacement, the display will show red. The PID will also display the remaining capacity in gallons.

Once your HealthShield™ tank is full and ready for replacement, it is generally classified as household waste under current federal regulations and can typically be disposed of through standard household waste disposal methods without special handling requirements.

Because disposal regulations can vary by location, we recommend checking with your state or local department of environmental protection or waste management authority for guidance on any applicable local disposal requirements or regulations.
