Aquasana FAQs
1. Why are whole house water filters considered "point of entry" systems?
The filtration system is installed at the point where the main water supply enters the home, delivering filtered water throughout your home.
We strongly recommend using a licensed plumber since they carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error. This will give you the security that the work was done properly, and peace of mind in knowing that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan.
The Rhino® 600,000 Gallons whole house water filter has a rated flow rate of 7 gallons per minute (gpm). True flow rate will vary with influent water pressure. Most homes use only 2 to 3 GPM the majority of the time.
The Rhino® 600,000 Gallons whole house water filter has a peak flow rate of 14 gallons per minute (gpm). True flow rate will vary with influent water pressure. Most homes use only 2 to 3 GPM the majority of the time.
City water is treated by municipalities to reduce bacteria, viruses, and common contamination sources. It's also regulated per the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) guidelines. Well water comes from an underground aquifer that is pumped into a home and is typically untreated. Well water may contain higher than average levels of iron or sulfur, or other contaminants.
The bottom tank contains activated carbon that reduces chlorine and/or chloramines, depending on the model purchased. In the chlorine-reducing systems, the top tank includes Copper-Zinc (KDF) media that aids in the reduction of chlorine, extends the life of your system, and inhibits bacteria and algae growth.
The Rhino® 600,000 Gallons is independently tested to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 to remove 97% of chlorine for 600,000 gallons or up to 6 years.
Chloramine is a disinfection agent comprised of chlorine and ammonia used as an alternative to chlorine in some city water treatment facilities. For customers with chloramine in their water, we offer the Rhino® Chloramines. This Whole House Filter features upgraded catalytic carbon media, which has a higher surface area to handle the aggressiveness of chloramine for longer than the standard whole house systems.
KDF stands for kinetic degradation fluxion, which is a redox filtration medium. KDF uses a unique combination of copper and zinc that creates an electrochemical reaction. Chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water supply.
After you install your whole house filter, you may notice your water is cloudy. Cloudy or white water is a result of air in the pipes. This trapped air is what causes the water to have a cloudy appearance. This is very common and not harmful. The trapped air in the pipes can take a week to a month to completely resolve.
It is recommended to disinfect all water supplies that are not protected by a municipal water (city water) source. By providing your own disinfection, you are ensuring the safety of your water supply for you and your family.
