Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I bought the entire Home filtration system AQ600,000 and man I didn't know what I was missing. My skin and hair feels so soft. When I make coffee it tastes so good. The water by itself tastes good. I haven't changed any filters yet so I can comment on them, only it looks easy as it says. I had a plumber instal and took 8 hours. I highly recommend getting a whole home filtration system. I tested the PH, hardness and chlorine before and after and it's a huge difference. Chlorine 0.2 to 0, PH 6.5 to 8.5 and hardness 50-0. Over I'm very happy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great filter, would purchase again! I LOVE this filter! We had a plumber install it and have been enjoying clean, delicious water ever since. I love knowing that my family can drink from any faucet in the house and it’s all equally clean water! Our water seems much softer when showering, toilets don’t get a water line in them, and our skin doesn’t seem as dry. It’s only been three weeks with our Pro Rhino filter and I can’t wait to see long term results for our hair and skin! 100% recommend this whole house filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent filter Having city water, I could tell the taste difference right away after clearing the lines. Hopefully the filter will make my skin feel better, but that will be a long term assessment. On the installation-I did have trouble with leaking. The directions state not to use too much pipe tape and not to over tighten. These were very subjective directions. Initially I was cautious and everything leaked. On the second go around I used ample tape and really cranked down on the wrenches-the leaking stopped. Perhaps the units could have brass fittings instead of the plastic which may crack. Now that it’s in all is good. I was disappointed at the delay in shipping. I was out of town when I got a call about my order and the company was waiting for me to respond before shipping. It was only to up sell me on filter replacement services. They should just ship ASAP.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best decision for treatment of well water For over 10 years we've used a salt water treatment. We would pay a company to bring in the salt and program the system. But after every power outage the system again would not work until reprogrammed. Many times we would out of salt and again it was not working. The cartridge inside the device broke open one time and it was filled with tiny sand like beads the clogged up all the plumbing. Since we had the Aquasana filter installed I can tell an improvement in the quality and taste of our water. I also don't have to worry about adding any salt or programming any system. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend the system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The joy of water The Rhino Whole House Water Filter with UV system has changed how I feel about showering, washing my hands, doing kitchen tasks and drinking water. I had it professionally installed and that went smoothly. It’s only been installed a couple weeks, so I don’t have any comments related to maintenance or filter longevity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aquasana EQ-600 with water condition & UV To start, I am enjoying the filter. I bought it a few months before installation. I had a professional Plummer do the install. Per code for my area, copper pipes were used. A few observations with the installation. Per the Plummer he had worked on similar systems but this was one of the more complex models that he had worked on in 20+ years on the job. The system was made for more of a PEX use design, however still able to use the copper obviously. Interestingly the threaded joints throughout the system are plastic. So should you cross thread the copper you could damage the unit (clearly that’s not ideal). As the area I installed it in was a smaller length in floor space than advised per manufacture, pictured are more joints had to be used. If this is your route be prepared for potentially a pricey install. Also, the joints that were supposed to connect directly to the filter canisters had to be moved for future “replacement canisters” to be swapped as the life of the filter ends. This will cause that process to be slightly more complicated. I’m sure any customers installation may vary. As for the unit itself, it’s only been a couple of days of use. And it is performing fantastically. No leaks, great pressure from all discharges in the house. Water does in fact even feel cleaner in showers. “Water softener like... but also not exactly”. (Expected as it is a water conditioner). I was disappointed that the company through its website, did not give an adequate explanation of how the water conditioner works rather than a sales pitch. At this point I can only assume that it effects the water hardness by changing calcium carbonate from natural calcite to another natural aragonite via some sort of template assisted crystallization process. I have not been able to find how long this conditioner is supposed to last, while the main unit is 600,000 gallons. This was bought with the pro instal kit. However, most of the kit was not used in favor of better quality parts. The one thing I do wish was included would be a high quality gallon counter so that I could actually realistically keep track of that. The UV works great and I do like the counter for bulb replacement. It’s tough to say how good the unit is at this point since it was just installed. But initial use and performance is great. Working as intended, and water is noticeably better in quality. As I do own a fish tank, time will tell how well and how long it inhibits limescale. I will also tip my hat to the Plummer on his work. Clearly the unit with copper looks impressive. I expect this unit will perform well, as there is no reason the installation would be causing it degrade in performance.

To me, one of the most important features of a whole house water filtration system is in it's ability to substantially reduce the TDS in the water. In our area and calcium builds up quite easily around the faucets and shower heads. Will Aquasana help?

Asked by: wafredrick
We, too, live in limestone country and the whole house water filtration system certainly does help! We've had our system for a year now and have absolutely no build up of calcium.

I had the filter installed along with other plumbing in a new house, so I don't know what was charged for that specific job. I had one at a previous house and a family member installed it

I want to know of all maintenance and costs. How often are filters replaced and current price of all filters. Cost of uv bulb, etc.

Asked by: Al 213
I registered for the yearly supply of filters at a cost of $45.00 yearly and that is all it cost for maintenance. As of UV bulb, I do not have one in my system.

FAQ
Aquasana FAQs
1. Why are whole house water filters considered point of entry systems?
The filtration system is installed at the point where the main water supply enters the home, delivering filtered water throughout your home.
Since most licensed plumbers carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error, having a licensed plumber install the system will give you the security that the work was done properly and peace of mind in knowing that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan.
All Aquasana Whole House Rhino® Filters are rated for 7 gallons per minute (gpm). True flow rate will vary with influent water pressure.
A home that is less than 3,500 sq. ft. with 3.5 bathrooms or fewer should not experience any noticeable drops in pressure. For homes larger than this, our knowledgeable Customer Service Team can build a custom system to accommodate the water capacity of the home. For more information, call us at 877-996-2875.
City water is pre-treated to make sure it is free of bacteria, viruses, and common contamination sources. It’s also regulated per the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) guidelines. Well water comes from an underground aquifer that is pumped into a home and is typically untreated. Well water may contain higher than average levels of iron or sulfur, or other contaminants.
Hard water, while mostly a nuisance, occurs when dissolved minerals clump together to produce scale that can harm your internal pipes, plumbing, and home appliances. Hard water contains a higher-than-average amount of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium), and a higher concentration of multivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+).
No, hard water is not always considered contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard.
Hard water can be city water or well water meaning it may or may not be pre-treated. The minerals that make water "hard" are not considered contaminants, but hard water can still contain additional contaminants that are not safe for consumption.
Soft water is water that has either been treated by a water softener or naturally contains less hard minerals. The most recognizable trait of "soft" water is how much more soap lathers, as opposed to hard water. Soap lathers less due to the higher concentration of minerals. Water softeners reduce the negative effects of dissolved minerals in water that can clump together and produce scale buildup.
Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still have contaminants present in the water.
Yes, soft water is considered potable. Drinking water from a sodium-based softener increases your daily intake of sodium, which can lead to health problems in sodium-sensitive individuals. Please keep in mind that a water softener is not a water filter. A water softener does not remove contaminants present in your water.
A salt-based water softener is a softener system designed to remove/reduce calcium and magnesium from the water by exchanging it with sodium. This is done through an ion exchange process that alters the molecular structure of the calcium and magnesium from a divalent ion to a univalent ion, making the water "softer."
Softeners do not remove chemical contamination themselves, but softeners sometimes have a carbon filter working in conjunction with the softener to treat contamination.
KDF stands for kinetic degradation fluxion, which is a redox filtration medium. KDF uses a unique combination of copper and zinc that creates an electrochemical reaction. Chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. To read more about KDF take a look here.
The bottom tank contains a coconut shell activated carbon medium that reduces chlorine, synthetic chemicals, and VOCs. The tank also contains a gravel bed filter to increase flow performance.
The Rhino® 600,000 Gallon is certified by NSF International to reduce over 97% of chlorine for 600,000 gallons or up to 6 years. The Rhino® 1,000,000 Gallon is third-party tested and proven to reduce 97% of chlorine for 1,000,000 or up to 10 years.
Chloramine is a disinfection agent comprised of chlorine and ammonia used as an alternative to chlorine in some city water treatment facilities. For customers with chloramine in their water, we offer the Rhino® Chloramines. This Whole House Filter features upgraded catalytic activated carbon media, which has a higher surface area to handle the aggressiveness of chloramine for longer than the standard whole house systems. The Rhino® Chloramines is available for purchase by calling the Aquasana Water Specialists at 877-996-2875. To learn more about chloramine, click here.
Our whole house filters do not remove calcium. To reduce hard mineral buildup, we recommend a whole house filter with a Salt-Free Water Conditioner.
It is recommended to disinfect all water supplies that are not protected by a municipal water (city water) source. By providing your own disinfection, you are ensuring the safety of your water supply for you and your family.
If you use water that comes from a municipal water supply and wish to provide your family with added peace of mind, a UV Filter acts as an added safeguard against bacteriologically contaminated water.
Because bacteria and viruses are more prevalent in homes that use well water, our Rhino® Well Water with UV comes standard with an ultraviolet filter specifically designed to render bacteria and viruses inactive. The UV Filter safely sanitizes up to 99.99% of illness-causing organisms. For homes using city water, we offer the UV Filter as an add-on to the Whole House Filters that provides an added safeguard against bacteria and viruses in the event of a "boil warning."
Yes, UV filtration is the best available technology proven to treat protozoan cysts. The levels required to inactivate these cysts are quite low: less than 10 mJ/cm2 for 99.9% sanitization of both Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia.
E. coli requires a UV does of 6-10 mJ/cm2 in order to render it inactive or sterilize by 99.99%. The Aquasana UV Filter delivers a minimum of 30 mJ/cm2.
UV filtration typically offers a 4-log reduction (99.99% sanitization) for both bacteria and most viruses. UV filtration is more effective and more eco-friendly than chemical disinfection processes at destroying a wide range of viruses.
UV filters are extremely economical to operate. A typical 10 gallon per minute (gpm) UV filter operates on the same power requirements as a 40-watt light bulb!
No, UV is a physical disinfection process. It does not change the taste or odor of the water. It simply provides safe, reliable disinfection while adding nothing to your water.
No, the UV filter should be left on whether you are using water or not. The lamp ages regardless of the amount of water drawn through the system. By leaving the unit on, you will eliminate the potential problem of having contamination pass through the filter while the unit is off. However, if water is drained from your disinfection system, your UV filter must be switched off.
UV lamps have a powerful life of approximately 9,000 hours, which means that the lamps require annual replacement. The UV light may offer illumination beyond 1 year, however there will not be enough UV energy to provide adequate disinfection. Proper maintenance of any pre-treatment is also required. Additionally, the sleeve must be cleaned at least once a year.
Yes, our UV filter is designed for water that has already been filtered through a home filtration system and not as a standalone unit. For UV filters to be effective, it is recommended that the influent water contain the following:
  • Iron < 0.3 ppm (0.3 mg/L)
  • Manganese < 0.05 ppm (0.05 mg/L)
  • Hardness < 7gpg
  • Tannins < 0.1 ppm (0.1 mg/L)
  • Turbidity < 1NTU
  • UV transmittance > 75%
