Rated 5 out of 5 by from Less to worry about Just shy of two weeks running and I feel mostly confident the water is free of any contaminants. Even though there’s less to worry about now with our water supply, we still filter any drinking water. Showers feel much better with the water conditioner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gangster Water Filtration for clean water I had a professional install my Pro Rhino Whole House Well Water Filter. The well water was making my skin feel slimy when I took a shower, was undrinkable and was starting to ruin my appliances. Now I can USE the ice cubes my fridge makes, take a shower and not feel slimy and fill my dogs dish in the sink!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for well water We just built our 'forever' home and it is on a shared well that does not have a filtration system attached to the main pump house, so we wanted to ensure that we filtered out any contaminants that be in the water. We've been extremely happy with our Aquasana. The water is clear, no smell and I've noticed that both my hair and clothes are much softer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A system to fit our needs Although a professional plumber installed the unit, there were no issues with installation. Unit appears to be functioning well although we have had limited use so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Water tastes better Only have had it installed for 3 days, and we can tell a difference in the taste of the water. My nephew a licensed plumber installed it in 3 hours. We recently moved to an acreage from always living in the city. The cat/dog water dish would have a orange film when sitting out. Our cosmetologist could also tell we had well. We bought the salt free water conditioner as well since the unit that came with the house was old and we would love not to by salt again. Hopefully we will like it as well once we use it more. Water pressure is the same as before no change which is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review of my Aquasana system. Pros: My water is now crystal clear. Because my water system was from a spring, if heavy rains fell the water would become somewhat clouded for around 24 to 36 hours. After just experiencing a 6 plus inch rain storm over a 4 hour period I noticed no cloudiness, this was a first. Also since the water filters through limestone, I have always had hard water with mineral deposits and stains on pots, heating elements and glassware along with cloudy ice tea. All i can say is wow not now with the descaler unit. The UV light not only works well but adds an extra of peace of mind knowing it is doing it's job killing spores, bacteria, and viruses. Over all rating very efficient equipment. Cons: even though I am adapt to DYI the instructions for plumbing, types of plastic piping and attacking were more advertisement than informative. However after calling the company's help line, I was given useful information , ie was told to wrap union threads at least 7 rounds to stop leakage ,which I had, around them. Seven times worked but this is unheard of even in professional plumbers I consulted. Again thank you for a affordable, functional unit.

Does this system control iron bacteria?

Asked by: cwr1
Yes. It has been 10 months with my Aquasana whole house rhino 5 filter system - and it works great! I did get a new toilets at the same time because the plumber was here for the Aquasana install and it was a good idea because the other components of the old (only 15 years old) toilets were damaged by iron bacteria. Now, there is none!

FAQ
Aquasana FAQs
1. Why are whole house water filters considered point of entry systems?
The filtration system is installed at the point where the main water supply enters the home, delivering filtered water throughout your home.
Since most licensed plumbers carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error, having a licensed plumber install the system will give you the security that the work was done properly and peace of mind in knowing that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan.
All Aquasana Whole House Rhino® Filters are rated for 7 gallons per minute (gpm). True flow rate will vary with influent water pressure.
A home that is less than 3,500 sq. ft. with 3.5 bathrooms or fewer should not experience any noticeable drops in pressure. For homes larger than this, our knowledgeable Customer Service Team can build a custom system to accommodate the water capacity of the home. For more information, call us at 877-996-2875.
City water is pre-treated to make sure it is free of bacteria, viruses, and common contamination sources. It’s also regulated per the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) guidelines. Well water comes from an underground aquifer that is pumped into a home and is typically untreated. Well water may contain higher than average levels of iron or sulfur, or other contaminants.
Hard water, while mostly a nuisance, occurs when dissolved minerals clump together to produce scale that can harm your internal pipes, plumbing, and home appliances. Hard water contains a higher-than-average amount of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium), and a higher concentration of multivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+).
No, hard water is not always considered contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard.
Hard water can be city water or well water meaning it may or may not be pre-treated. The minerals that make water "hard" are not considered contaminants, but hard water can still contain additional contaminants that are not safe for consumption.
Soft water is water that has either been treated by a water softener or naturally contains less hard minerals. The most recognizable trait of "soft" water is how much more soap lathers, as opposed to hard water. Soap lathers less due to the higher concentration of minerals. Water softeners reduce the negative effects of dissolved minerals in water that can clump together and produce scale buildup.
Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still have contaminants present in the water.
Yes, soft water is considered potable. Drinking water from a sodium-based softener increases your daily intake of sodium, which can lead to health problems in sodium-sensitive individuals. Please keep in mind that a water softener is not a water filter. A water softener does not remove contaminants present in your water.
A salt-based water softener is a softener system designed to remove/reduce calcium and magnesium from the water by exchanging it with sodium. This is done through an ion exchange process that alters the molecular structure of the calcium and magnesium from a divalent ion to a univalent ion, making the water "softer."
Softeners do not remove chemical contamination themselves, but softeners sometimes have a carbon filter working in conjunction with the softener to treat contamination.
KDF stands for kinetic degradation fluxion, which is a redox filtration medium. KDF uses a unique combination of copper and zinc that creates an electrochemical reaction. Chlorine, for instance, is changed into benign, water-soluble chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. To read more about KDF take a look here.
The bottom tank contains a coconut shell activated carbon medium that reduces chlorine, synthetic chemicals, and VOCs. The tank also contains a gravel bed filter to increase flow performance.
The Rhino® 600,000 Gallon is certified by NSF International to reduce over 97% of chlorine for 600,000 gallons or up to 6 years. The Rhino® 1,000,000 Gallon is third-party tested and proven to reduce 97% of chlorine for 1,000,000 or up to 10 years.
Chloramine is a disinfection agent comprised of chlorine and ammonia used as an alternative to chlorine in some city water treatment facilities. For customers with chloramine in their water, we offer the Rhino® Chloramines. This Whole House Filter features upgraded catalytic activated carbon media, which has a higher surface area to handle the aggressiveness of chloramine for longer than the standard whole house systems. The Rhino® Chloramines is available for purchase by calling the Aquasana Water Specialists at 877-996-2875. To learn more about chloramine, click here.
Our whole house filters do not remove calcium. To reduce hard mineral buildup, we recommend a whole house filter with a Salt-Free Water Conditioner.
It is recommended to disinfect all water supplies that are not protected by a municipal water (city water) source. By providing your own disinfection, you are ensuring the safety of your water supply for you and your family.
If you use water that comes from a municipal water supply and wish to provide your family with added peace of mind, a UV Filter acts as an added safeguard against bacteriologically contaminated water.
Because bacteria and viruses are more prevalent in homes that use well water, our Rhino® Well Water with UV comes standard with an ultraviolet filter specifically designed to render bacteria and viruses inactive. The UV Filter safely sanitizes up to 99.99% of illness-causing organisms. For homes using city water, we offer the UV Filter as an add-on to the Whole House Filters that provides an added safeguard against bacteria and viruses in the event of a "boil warning."
Yes, UV filtration is the best available technology proven to treat protozoan cysts. The levels required to inactivate these cysts are quite low: less than 10 mJ/cm2 for 99.9% sanitization of both Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia lamblia.
E. coli requires a UV does of 6-10 mJ/cm2 in order to render it inactive or sterilize by 99.99%. The Aquasana UV Filter delivers a minimum of 30 mJ/cm2.
UV filtration typically offers a 4-log reduction (99.99% sanitization) for both bacteria and most viruses. UV filtration is more effective and more eco-friendly than chemical disinfection processes at destroying a wide range of viruses.
UV filters are extremely economical to operate. A typical 10 gallon per minute (gpm) UV filter operates on the same power requirements as a 40-watt light bulb!
No, UV is a physical disinfection process. It does not change the taste or odor of the water. It simply provides safe, reliable disinfection while adding nothing to your water.
No, the UV filter should be left on whether you are using water or not. The lamp ages regardless of the amount of water drawn through the system. By leaving the unit on, you will eliminate the potential problem of having contamination pass through the filter while the unit is off. However, if water is drained from your disinfection system, your UV filter must be switched off.
UV lamps have a powerful life of approximately 9,000 hours, which means that the lamps require annual replacement. The UV light may offer illumination beyond 1 year, however there will not be enough UV energy to provide adequate disinfection. Proper maintenance of any pre-treatment is also required. Additionally, the sleeve must be cleaned at least once a year.
Yes, our UV filter is designed for water that has already been filtered through a home filtration system and not as a standalone unit. For UV filters to be effective, it is recommended that the influent water contain the following:
  • Iron < 0.3 ppm (0.3 mg/L)
  • Manganese < 0.05 ppm (0.05 mg/L)
  • Hardness < 7gpg
  • Tannins < 0.1 ppm (0.1 mg/L)
  • Turbidity < 1NTU
  • UV transmittance > 75%
