Ratings & Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our appreciation of our Aquasana products We already have the whole house filtration system, which is working fine, and then my wife asked me about getting a softener (water in Jax, FLA is really hard). I went straight to Aquasana and shopped. I knew I didn't want to haul salt, so I read the description and reviews for the whole house water conditioner. I purchased the item and had it professionally installed. OMG! What can I say; you won't get out of the shower, you'll start eating ice (without a drink) you'll use less detergent, and most importantly, she loves it too. Try it, you'll see...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A high quality product I installed it myself, though I have plumbing experience. I do not necessarily recommend this as you absolutely do not want any leaks. It was straightforward and took me about an hour to cut and spice into my existing water line. I had no issues, but I am very meticulous when it comes to plumbing. It has only been a month, so I cannot comment yet on the descaling effect of the "softener". My water comes from a deep artesean well and was already of high quality except for the minerals. I do like that it has not changed the "feel" of my water that you see with traditional salt softeners. It does seem that the "pre-filter" has reduced the amount of sediment I sometimes see in my water. I like that I can change this filter inexpensively more frequently when I need it. I have no complaints and am optimistic it will do exactly what I was hoping for. I also thought it was a good value given the longevity of the "softener".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tasting water! Installation was straight forward, but the instructions leave a lot to be desired, ie. all there is, is a picture of the completed install. Very few instructions. It would be helpful to show the plumbing "behind" the wall. That picture is far from a "normal" install. We flushed the tanks as directed, but after installing, there was still a significant amount of carbon coming out of the closest faucet. I also drained and flushed the water heater to make sure I had all the carbon out of that. Would have been nice to know that ahead of time, and run a bit of water into a bucket before completing the connection back into the house and contaminating all the lines. The water immediately tasted better (like bottled water). My wife and I both noticed softer water when showering, and she doesn't have to use fabric softener when washing bath towels. The dishwasher also works better, and less scaling on the glasses. I have noticed that there is almost no scale buildup on the faucets or shower heads. However, the scale that was on the shower head has not been cleared off after two months of use. Not a big deal, I can clean that to then insure scale buildup does not come back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly pleased. Performs as advertised We conducted extensive research and settled on the Aquasana for our high rise condo in Cape Coral, FL, where the municipal water is deplorable. Our local plumbing contractor recommended and installed the Aquasana Whole House system in a small water heater closet. We added the Sterilight UV Filter, and pre, post, and micron filters. The water taste is excellent - as good or better than any bottled water. We've also observed a noticeable improvement in the laundry, shower, and no hard water deposits/spots on the glass shower doors. The system is far superior to salt based and reverse osmosis systems as it does not waste water in the process. We are completely satisfied with our purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features Pro: I like the Aquasana system for its simplicity, and no salt only filters to change periodically. Con: There weren't any instruction with the system on assembly of the unit, only a colored diagram of the assembled system. There needs to be drains in the bottom of the pre filter and the micron filter to drain the water before changing the filters or the water sprays all over.

Customer Q&A

I have a Swamp cooler and the water here in Las Vegas is hard. Will this system get rid of the scale problem?

Asked by: Darryl
That is exactly what it is designed to do. "Scaling" occurs because of excessive minerals, particularly calcium are in the "hard" water. Excessive calcium will be particularly hard on hot water heaters and any fixture with metal, including a swamp cooler. The reason I went with with Aquasana is that I did not want a traditional softener that uses sodium(salt) with the frequent maintenance. This product is low maintenance and last for years before the filter needs replacement. My opinion is that it pays for itself in terms of prolonging the life of your hot water heater, dishwasher, faucets and most likely your swamp cooler.

If you're system doesn't remove calcium, what do I need for a high calcium well? Additionally what product to remove rotten egg smell?

Asked by: Bob the plumber
Hello, Thank you for contacting us. Sulfur or “rotten-egg” odors can develop in water heaters and in corroded iron piping. The incidence of rotten egg odor or black water in water lines is due to the reaction of sulfates and microorganisms in water. To determine the source of the odor, it is important to check to see whether the cold water contains odor or just the hot water. If the hot water alone has an odor, then the odor is occurring primarily in the water heater. If your well has high levels of Sulphur and/or iron, you will need an Iron Filtration tank to reduce the levels in your water. We recommend getting an iron rival that is designed to handle higher levels of iron intake. https://www.home-water-purifiers-and-filters.com/iron-filter-birm.php Thank you, Customer Support

I also have an ongoing problem with calcium build up in 2 of my bathrooms. How do I determine if the system is working?

Asked by: SJean
The mineral make up of the water is not changed. It’s an ionic process that scrambles the mineral content. You will still get water spots on a shower door and calcium build up, it will be less and easier to tackle. The soft water is really beneficial for your skin and hair.

no, water feels normal. the system takes out the hard minerals that damage your plumbing without changing the consistency of the water. no slime like salt tank water.

FAQ
Aquasana FAQs
1. How will the water feel on my skin? Is there a slimy feeling?
Because Aquasana’s Salt-Free Water Conditioner does not replace hard minerals with salt, your water will not feel slimy or slippery as it would with salt-based softeners.
The conditioner is designed to handle hardness levels below 25 GPG and works best with hardness levels at 15 GPG or below.
The Salt-Free Water Conditioner is designed to last up to 6 years or 600,000 gallons.
It is recommended you change out your Salt-Free Water Conditioner tanks every 6 years or 600,000 gallons for optimal performance.
The Salt-Free Water Conditioner is designed to prevent the harmful effects of scale buildup in internal pipes and plumbing. Our system uses Scale Control Media (SCM) to alter the charge of hard mineral ions, so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, our Salt-Free Water Conditioner does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce buildup.
No. Our system uses Scale Control Media (SCM) to alter the charge of hard mineral ions, so they do not bind together to create scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners, our Salt-Free Water Conditioner does not need to remove the hard minerals from your water in order to reduce scale. Because hard minerals are not replaced by salt or other chemicals, TDS levels will remain the same even though scale formation is inhibited.
Yes. The Salt-Free Water Conditioner is designed to protect the internal pipes and plumbing in your home from harmful scale buildup. Unlike salt-based softeners that replace minerals like calcium with salt, the Salt-Free Water Conditioner instead uses Scale Control Media (SCM) to alter the charge of hard minerals, so they do not bind to one another to create scale. Because the Salt-Free Water Conditioner alters the charge of hard minerals to inhibit scale formation and does not replace them with salt or chemicals, hard minerals remain in your water and will pass safely through your pipes and down the drain. If the calcium levels in your water are high enough, harmless calcium spots can still occur on areas where water is left sitting and can evaporate, leaving hard mineral deposits behind on surfaces like glassware, countertops, pots, pans, chrome faucets or stainless steel.
Hard water is caused by dissolved minerals binding together to produce scale, which can harm your internal pipes, plumbing, and home appliances. Hard water contains a higher-than-average amount of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium), and a higher concentration of multivalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+).
No, hard water is more of a nuisance than a health issue and is not always considered contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard.
Hard water can be city water or well water meaning it may or may not be pre-treated. The minerals that make water "hard" are not considered contaminants, but hard water can still contain additional contaminants that are not safe for consumption.
The most recognizable trait of "soft" water is how much more soap lathers, as opposed to hard water.  Soap lathers less due to the higher concentration of minerals. Water softeners reduce the negative effects of dissolved minerals in water that can clump together and produce scale buildup.
Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still have contaminants present in the water.
Yes, soft water is considered potable. However, drinking water from a sodium-based softener increases your daily intake of sodium, which can lead to health problems in sodium-sensitive individuals. Please keep in mind that a water softener is not a water filter. A water softener does not remove contaminants present in your water.
Since most licensed plumbers carry insurance to cover any damages caused by an installation error, having a licensed plumber install the system will give you the security that the work was done properly and peace of mind in knowing that the installation is backed up by the plumbing company's insurance plan.
