Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described. I use this for coffee, drinking water and humidifiers. It was easy to install but it did not come with enough tubing. I had to buy more for the big box store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product I made sure to research different RO systems and Aquasana's did everything I needed it to, all while falling in my price range. Installation: I noticed a lot of people complained about not being informed about the system's setup only to end up with exuberant plumber charges. However, I was able to install my RO system in about an hour after drilling the hole in my sink for its faucet. The only leak I had was fixed once I reinstalled one of the filters. None of this was complicated because I made sure to READ all the product's information, setup instructions & watch the installation video they provided before even buying the product. I'm honestly amazed at how ignorant and lazy people are. Product: I've had my RO system for over 6 months and everything is running smoothly, water tastes great (you can definitely taste the difference in mineral content and quality compared to tap and/or filtered), and even though it does have a bit of a slow flow rate, it's really not that bad. Takes about 2 minutes to fill a half gallon pitcher that II place in the fridge so I always have cold water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product with excellent instructions It is rare that I buy a product that needs to be installed or assembled that has instructions as good as what came with the OptimH2O RO. Installation took 2 hours, it took me 40 minutes to get the slotted washer on the faucet assembly, ( tough reach), I kept dropping it. The trick for me was to turn the faucet assembly 90 degrees to allow the washer to slide on more easily. The water is Great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded Our Expectations We've had The RO about 3 weeks now and we LOVE IT !! I wish we had ordered one sooner. My husband had no problem installing it, the longest process was drilling a hole in the sink as per our sink wasn't adapted for a water feature. I like the idea of setting up a starship for new filters so I dont have to remember when to order. The Quality of the water is supreme, my whole family has felt various health benefits. From a decrease in inflammation, weigh loss, cleared up acne and taste buds for certain foods are more enlightened. Definitely give the Auqasana a 5 star rating.☆☆☆☆☆

Aquasana FAQs

  1. Do I need a plumber to install the system or can I install it myself?

Depending on your existing skills and experience, we recommend hiring a professional to install your reverse osmosis system. Installation does require drilling into your pipes which is not recommended for individuals unfamiliar with plumbing and permanent appliance installation. Please read through the owner's manual carefully before attempting to install the system. If you have any questions or need assistance, our technical support representatives at 866-662-6885 can walk you through the installation process.

  2. How often do I have to replace the cartridges and membrane?

    • Stage 1 (Carbon) and Stage 3 (Claryum) filter cartridges should be replaced every 6 months or 365 gallons. To make replacements easier and cheaper, these cartridges are eligible for our Water for Life auto-ship program. Get free shipping, the best discounts, and an extended product warranty by joining Water for Life.
    • We recommend replacing Stage 2 (RO Membrane) every 2 years depending on usage and water quality. For homes with higher water usage and/or poorer water quality, you may need to replace your RO membrane every 1 to 2 years. For homes with lower water usage and/or better water quality, you may only need to replace your RO membrane every 2 to 3 years.
    • We recommend replacing the remineralizer every 1 year depending on usage and water quality.

  3. Is this purified water?

Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O uses reverse osmosis to effectively purify your drinking water. In addition to reverse osmosis, the OptimH2O system also uses selective filtration to reduce over 60 other contaminants, plus includes a remineralizer designed to put back healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium that are removed in the reverse osmosis process.

  4. I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. What should I do?

Unfortunately, drilling into your water pipes is required to install the Aquasana OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis system. If you already have an existing hole for a vegetable sprayer or soap dispenser on your sink countertop, our AQ-5200 and AQ-5300 Under Counter Drinking Water Systems can be installed without making permanent changes to your sink and are great options for rental properties. If there is not an existing hole on your sink countertop, we also have two countertop options that offer the same professional grade filtration as our under counter options (please see the Powered Water Filtration System or AQ-4000).

  5. I have an existing filtration or side faucet from a previous system. Can I use that with my new Aquasana water filter?

The faucet included with the Aquasana OptimH2O is specifically designed and NSF tested and certified to work with our reverse osmosis system — any other Aquasana faucet or faucet from another filtration system not designed to work with a reverse osmosis system will not work for the Aquasana OptimH2O and may cause damage to your filtration system. If you choose to use another reverse osmosis air gap faucet, we recommend you enlist the help of a plumber to ensure proper installation.

  6. Why is it important to flush my OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis System during the initial installation?

When RO membranes are manufactured, there is a preservative used to protect the membrane fibers from damage. This preservative needs to be flushed out after the system is installed and prior to drinking water from the RO system. In addition, the RO holding tank should be sanitized with a drop of bleach during the install. It is important to flush the system for the entire 24 hours during the initial install to ensure all the bleach from the holding tank is washed away before consumption.

  7. What does TDS mean?

TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Aquasana OptimH2O comes standard with a 1 year remineralizer designed to replace healthy calcium, magnesium, and potassium lost in the reverse osmosis process.

  8. Does the Aquasana OptimH2O remove fluoride?

Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O is NSF Certified to remove over 95% of fluoride from your drinking water.

  9. Does the Aquasana OptimH2O remove arsenic?

Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O is NSF Certified to remove over 97% of arsenic from your drinking water.

  10. How many gallons does the RO holding tank store?

The RO holding tank stores 3.2 gallons of water at a time.

  11. What is the flow rate of the Aquasana OptimH2O?

OptimH2O flows at a rate of 0.5 gpm (gallons per minute).

User Q & A

It is recommended to use household bleach (5.25%) to Sanitize the tank. But there are a lot of household bleach with additives. Could you recommend one or provide a link for the bleach is good for drinking water system? Thanks.

Asked by: t588t588
While bleach is good I would recommend why is used by hospitals and in the brewing industry because of the possible off flavors possible with bleach. Iodophor is used by the food service industry and medical industry to sanitize equipment. Iodophor is an iodine detergent, germicide and sanitizer. I have used Iodophor for a number of years in my brewing, and love it, because it is a no rinse sanitizer, and very easy to use.

we live in Surprise Az. who would install this and know that they will have to drill through a granite counter

Asked by: GUSJ
We are the manufacturer and distributor but we do not have installation technicians in the field. We do work with a network of plumbers across the US who are familiar with and/or certified to install our systems. If you would like to know if there is anyone in your area, please e-mail support@aquasana.com or call 866.662.6885 For granite counters, you should contact a Granite Specialist for any alterations to your counter. We do not recommend drilling by anyone other than a Granite Specialist.

If I already have a whole house filter system, will that extend the life of my RO filters? If so, by how much? Also, is the 24 hr purge just to flush out the bleach, or is it necessary regardless?

Asked by: Jdsmytti
Yes and no. While the Whole Home system will serve as a "pre-filter" to the RO filtration and resuce the level of contaminants entering the home prior to the RO, we recommend changing the filters every six months. We base our estimates and requirements on the testing done by the NSF. In the case of our filtration systems, it is not always necessarily the amount of water that has passed through the system, but the amount of time that the filters have been in contact with Water. Keep in mind that while you may be using a minimal amount of water, the filters are constantly soaking in the water, waiting for a valve to open, and the water to resume flowing. We make suggestions based on the safest and healthiest way to maintain our systems. Once the filter starts to degrade due to elongated contact with water, you risk bacteria and mold growing inside the filter and the system: Heterotrophs (heterotrophic bacteria) are a group of microorganisms (yeast, molds & bacteria) that use organic carbon as food (as opposed to autotrophs like algae that use sunlight) and are found in every type of water. The 24-hour purge is to remove the bleach, soak the filters, and fill the holding tank.

Same here doe this RO System reduce PFAS, PFOA, PFOS? I saw the new NSF report and it only listed the following AQ-4000,AQ-4000B,AQ-4000B-Prem,AQ-4000P AQ-4000P-STD,AQ-4000W,AQ-4000W-Prem,AQ-4600,,AQ-4601,AQ-4601.55,AQ-4601.56,AQ-4601.62,AQ-5100,AQ-5200,

Asked by: Christopher Hewett
All of our drinking systems are NSF certified P475 for the reduction of PFA, PFOA, and PFOS (PFC). The EPA lists activated carbon as a filtration method for removing PFOS and PFOA, which all of our systems contain, and all of our drinking systems are certified to remove. The Whole Home system is not certified because the filtered water must then go through your pipes, we cannot guarantee that contaminants are not in your pipes and being picked up after going through the system. However, we can say that our Whole Home Systems do remove PFOA and PFOS. With the drinking systems being point of use with our faucets and tubing, we can guarantee the contaminant is removed. The following is a link to the NSF website that lists our drinking water systems with the certification. http://www.nsf.org/newsroom/nsf-international-certifies-first-water-filters-pfoa
