Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I was looking for a RO system that would work on the ice and water dispenser on my frig. The sales person I spoke with said it would work and all I need to get was an air gap. I installed the system, did the 24 hour purge and now I do have water to the frig but there is such a loss of pressure that it takes almost a minute to fill a small glass. Called tech services and they said that since I installed the system to a frig that they can't support it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ummmm. . . To be determined? After 2 weeks I can only say Aquasana’s customer service seems adequate. I’m yet to experience a functioning system despite professional installation by a licensed plumber 2 weeks ago. Day after day I switch filters, purge, put air in tank with a bicycle pump (really?) all as instructed by what seems to be a knowledgeable customer service associate. Apparently there is a bad batch of red filter elements as well, a batch that interrupts water flow into the tank, but after 2 filter changes (all directed and supported by Aquasana customer service) my system still doesn’t work. Finally I insisted on a whole new red canister (or return authorization for the whole system) and this may have solved the problem. We are running it now, hoping for the best. Amidst all this I got a generic solicitation from Aquasana to give them a review. Here it is!

Like the water system, flow rate is strong, great aquarium water, great tasting. Takes a fair amount of space under the sink and I broke one of the plastic fittings. Customer service was awesome sending a free replacement part but UPS took a week.

Love that this RO puts the minerals back in (not like those other RO systems on amazon which I ordered and returned!) Installation is key (judging from some of the reviews...) and my plumber aguaventuresllc@gmail.com is the best installer in NJ. House system going in next!

This is so unfair to your customers. We paid a plumber’s visit only to learn that we must order an $8.95 adaptor for single sink applications OR pay our plumber an $250 above the $350 install fee to make us a fitting which will accept this unit in order to insure the disposal doesn’t back up into it and contaminate it. NOT FAIR~

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Installation November 2017 we ordered the unit. We have enjoyed the unit, and the taste of the water. The unit is supplying water to a faucet in the kitchen and to the refrigerator's ice maker. The filters are installed upstairs under the kitchen sink and the tank is in the basement utility room. The waste water tube is setup to drain into the basement utility room drain that the wash machine uses. This setup required extra equipment that we were able to get from the local hardware/plumbing department store. If I would do it over I would have had all the equipment plumbed in the basement utility room. The reason for putting the unit the basement would be to save space under the kitchen sink. Also, we have been an Aquasana customer for years. We used the under the sink filter system until now. The reason for the change we didn't want to consume the fluoride the city added to the water. This unit is designed to remove that element.

The instructional diagrams and the color coded hoses made it easy. The only issue I had was that filter system was slightly too tall to accommodate a deeper sink. I was able to install it, but had to leave the cover off.

  1. Do I need a plumber to install the system or can I install it myself?

    Depending on your existing skills and experience, we recommend hiring a professional to install your reverse osmosis system. Installation does require drilling into your pipes which is not recommended for individuals unfamiliar with plumbing and permanent appliance installation. Please read through the owner's manual carefully before attempting to install the system. If you have any questions or need assistance, our technical support representatives at 866-662-6885 can walk you through the installation process.

  2. How often do I have to replace the cartridges and membrane?

    • Stage 1 (Carbon) and Stage 3 (Claryum) filter cartridges should be replaced every 6 months or 365 gallons. To make replacements easier and cheaper, these cartridges are eligible for our Water for Life auto-ship program.     • We recommend replacing Stage 2 (RO Membrane) every 2 years depending on usage and water quality. For homes with higher water usage and/or poorer water quality, you may need to replace your RO membrane every 1 to 2 years. For homes with lower water usage and/or better water quality, you may only need to replace your RO membrane every 2 to 3 years.
    • We recommend replacing the remineralizer every 1 year depending on usage and water quality.

  3. Is this purified water?

    Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O uses reverse osmosis to effectively purify your drinking water. In addition to reverse osmosis, the OptimH2O system also uses selective filtration to reduce over 60 other contaminants, plus includes a remineralizer designed to put back healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium that are removed in the reverse osmosis process.

  4. I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. What should I do?

    Unfortunately, drilling into your water pipes is required to install the Aquasana OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis system. If you already have an existing hole for a vegetable sprayer or soap dispenser on your sink countertop, our AQ-5200 and AQ-5300 Under Counter Drinking Water Systems can be installed without making permanent changes to your sink and are great options for rental properties. If there is not an existing hole on your sink countertop, we also have two countertop options that offer the same professional grade filtration as our under counter options (please see the Powered Water Filtration System or AQ-4000).

  5. I have an existing filtration or side faucet from a previous system. Can I use that with my new Aquasana water filter?

    The faucet included with the Aquasana OptimH2O is specifically designed and NSF tested and certified to work with our reverse osmosis system — any other Aquasana faucet or faucet from another filtration system not designed to work with a reverse osmosis system will not work for the Aquasana OptimH2O and may cause damage to your filtration system. If you choose to use another reverse osmosis air gap faucet, we recommend you enlist the help of a plumber to ensure proper installation.

  6. Why is it important to flush my OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis System during the initial installation?

    When RO membranes are manufactured, there is a preservative used to protect the membrane fibers from damage. This preservative needs to be flushed out after the system is installed and prior to drinking water from the RO system. In addition, the RO holding tank should be sanitized with a drop of bleach during the install. It is important to flush the system for the entire 24 hours during the initial install to ensure all the bleach from the holding tank is washed away before consumption.

  7. What does TDS mean?

    TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Aquasana OptimH2O comes standard with a 1 year remineralizer designed to replace healthy calcium, magnesium, and potassium lost in the reverse osmosis process.

  8. Does the Aquasana OptimH2O remove fluoride?

    Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O is NSF Certified to remove over 95% of fluoride from your drinking water.

Do you have a system that doesn't require an extra faucet on the countertop ? I have a granite top and an under mount sink. If the cold line out of the wall can be connected between the flexible line and feed then I can have even the ice maker hooked up.

This system doesn’t require the extra faucet. However, you would need additional plumbing connectors that are not included. I would recommend using a licensed plumber.  Ron164

hello Is it normal that after that we are pouring a couple of glass of water the system start with a noise like the water is coming through the pipe to the filter .We need to turn off the water valve and turn back on and it stop Thank you

I am looking for counter top REVERSE OSMOSIS

Hi Elisa - Our reverse osmosis system is an under-counter unit as it has to connect to the water line that's underneath your sink. We do not have a reverse osmosis system that could be installed above your counter. Our other drinking systems are NSF certified to remove 77 contaminants. Has anyone used this in an RV?

I haven't personally, however, this RO is designed to work with any fixture source, regardless of where the inlet is located.  Also, you may want to measure for appropriate installation space.  I would not try to hide the unit and install it top side except for the holding tank.  Put the tank under the sink and the filters up where they are easily accessible for service/change.

Where do the minerals come from that you are putting back into the water?  Is it possible to get this system without the minerals adding back?

I am a new user of the Aquasana OptimH20 Reverse Osmosis system. The minerals come from the remineral cartridge that came with the unit. I found that the healthy minerals improves the taste of the water so much that I am drinking 2 to 3 times more water than before. Coffee & iced tea are great tasting. My wife cooks with the minerlized water. It is possible to not install the cartridge by connecting the faucet tube directly from the faucet into the manifold. Hope this helps with your decision. Hello..is there a filter to change..and how often..and is it more than one filter to change or just one ?

It all depends on your usage, city, rural or well water. If you have a lot of minerals or a lot of chlorine I recommend every 6 months. Usually because it is only used for drinking water, I would change all of them once a year. You can also flush it through with a little chlorine after 3 or 6 monthsif you dont want to change filters. Good product for sure.
