Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aquasana was an easy choice for our Family Aquasana was an easy choice for us. My wife did a complete research and found that Aguasana reverse osmosis AND remineralization was the only system on the market with a third-part NSF certification on not only one but 3 levels. We called Aquasana and they were easy to do business with. Although there was no installation video, the system was easy to install. I am NOT tech savvy, but I was able to

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Some vital steps missing in instructions Overall, I found this unit rather easy to install. However, I did notice a couple of vital steps that were missing. 1st, there was the matter of injecting the bleach in the tubing for the tank, which tells you to inject the 3ml. of bleach after you have hooked everything up. You are instructed to remove the tubing from the manifold to inject the bleach. Herein lies problem #2. It doesn't tell you how to remove the tubing. I had to search YouTube for the answer. If you simply push the collar of the locking device down with your thumbnail, you will be able to remove the tubing with no problems. Hope this helps the next person that runs into this problem, or maybe they can change their instruction pamphlet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tasting Water I use RO water for cooking and drinking only. I modified the placement of the system to the basement where my other water filters are installed. Set up took longer because of my placement plan, but no problems were found. Be careful to insert the push-on connectors firmly. Wait for pressure to build in storage tank to determine if leaks exist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't be happier with our OptimH2O This system was the only water filter I could find that removes more contaminants and remineralizes the water, leaving you with high quality great tasting water. No more running back and forth to the store for bottled water. Its low cost is saving me a ton of money. It was easy to install, we were able to easily connect it to our ice maker and water dispenser through our refrigerator. Very happy w

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 99% of all you need to know to install The installation was time consuming, but the instructions were clear and not too hard to follow - until it came to purging the unit after putting bleach in the holding tank. It needed to say that after bleach is put in the holding tank and then the tank has filled (takes about 3 hours after installed and the water is turned on) that when you open the filtered water faucet (that came with the unit)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent RO system This is my first RO system. The installation was horrible! They didn't send us one of the required parts the first time and the right parts the second time. Aquasana FAQs

  1. Do I need a plumber to install the system or can I install it myself?

Depending on your existing skills and experience, we recommend hiring a professional to install your reverse osmosis system. Installation does require drilling into your pipes which is not recommended for individuals unfamiliar with plumbing and permanent appliance installation. Please read through the owner's manual carefully before attempting to install the system. If you have any questions or need assistance, our technical support representatives at 866-662-6885 can walk you through the installation process.

  2. How often do I have to replace the cartridges and membrane?

    • Stage 1 (Carbon) and Stage 3 (Claryum) filter cartridges should be replaced every 6 months or 365 gallons. To make replacements easier and cheaper, these cartridges are eligible for our Water for Life auto-ship program. Get free shipping, the best discounts, and an extended product warranty by joining Water for Life.
    • We recommend replacing Stage 2 (RO Membrane) every 2 years depending on usage and water quality. For homes with higher water usage and/or poorer water quality, you may need to replace your RO membrane every 1 to 2 years. For homes with lower water usage and/or better water quality, you may only need to replace your RO membrane every 2 to 3 years.
    • We recommend replacing the remineralizer every 1 year depending on usage and water quality.

  3. Is this purified water?

Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O uses reverse osmosis to effectively purify your drinking water. In addition to reverse osmosis, the OptimH2O system also uses selective filtration to reduce over 60 other contaminants, plus includes a remineralizer designed to put back healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium that are removed in the reverse osmosis process.

  4. I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. What should I do?

Unfortunately, drilling into your water pipes is required to install the Aquasana OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis system. If you already have an existing hole for a vegetable sprayer or soap dispenser on your sink countertop, our AQ-5200 and AQ-5300 Under Counter Drinking Water Systems can be installed without making permanent changes to your sink and are great options for rental properties. If there is not an existing hole on your sink countertop, we also have two countertop options that offer the same professional grade filtration as our under counter options (please see the Powered Water Filtration System or AQ-4000).

  5. I have an existing filtration or side faucet from a previous system. Can I use that with my new Aquasana water filter?

The faucet included with the Aquasana OptimH2O is specifically designed and NSF tested and certified to work with our reverse osmosis system — any other Aquasana faucet or faucet from another filtration system not designed to work with a reverse osmosis system will not work for the Aquasana OptimH2O and may cause damage to your filtration system. If you choose to use another reverse osmosis air gap faucet, we recommend you enlist the help of a plumber to ensure proper installation.

  6. Why is it important to flush my OptimH2O Reverse Osmosis System during the initial installation?

When RO membranes are manufactured, there is a preservative used to protect the membrane fibers from damage. This preservative needs to be flushed out after the system is installed and prior to drinking water from the RO system. In addition, the RO holding tank should be sanitized with a drop of bleach during the install. It is important to flush the system for the entire 24 hours during the initial install to ensure all the bleach from the holding tank is washed away before consumption.

  7. What does TDS mean?

TDS is the acronym for Total Dissolved Solids, the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Aquasana OptimH2O comes standard with a 1 year remineralizer designed to replace healthy calcium, magnesium, and potassium lost in the reverse osmosis process.

  8. Does the Aquasana OptimH2O remove fluoride?

Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O is NSF Certified to remove over 95% of fluoride from your drinking water.

  9. Does the Aquasana OptimH2O remove arsenic?

Yes. The Aquasana OptimH2O is NSF Certified to remove over 97% of arsenic from your drinking water.

  10. How many gallons does the RO holding tank store?

The RO holding tank stores 3.2 gallons of water at a time.

  11. What is the flow rate of the Aquasana OptimH2O?

OptimH2O flows at a rate of 0.5 gpm (gallons per minute).

User Q & A

Can this be used with well water? I rent but am allowed to drill a hole in the pipe. Whenever we move, can we remove the system and bring it to a new place? Of course, we'd have to replace the current pipe with a hole.

Thank you for your interest in Aquasana! The RO system is the perfect drinking system to use if your home is on well water. Let us know if you have any other questions! Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support

What psi does the purified water come out at in this system?

Asked by: Rioleck
I haven't measured the psi flow rate, but it isn't very high. It does flow rather well and doesn't take much time to fill a container such as a coffee pot. The destructor in the line limits the flow rate.

I am interested in purchasing this RO system but I live in an apartment and will need to remove it when I leave. Is it feasible to take it with me? If so would you be able to provide a metal cap to cover the whole that will be cut out of my sink?

Asked by: Shay45
Hi Shay, I live in a Townhome and had the same concern as we're renting too. We just installed ours this evening and I see no reason why it couldn't be moved to a new place when you leave. The 1in hole you drill in your sink can be covered with a stainless steel cap that you can pick up from your nearest home improvement store off the shelf, when you remove the system. You will also be placing a hole in your drain pipe under the sink which can also be covered with pipe tape, epoxy, or a patch kit.

We have used the purifier for 8 months, in the last 3 days have noticed that the amount of water coming from the unit has decreased, today there is little to no water coming from the purifier. What should we look for to get it running again?

Asked by: Gap1
I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your system! Have you changed out your 1 & 3 stage filters? The red and yellow filters should be changed every 6 months. If they are past due, then this is almost certainly the cause of the slow flow you are experiencing. If you have been keeping up with the filter change, please contact our support team at 866.662.6885 and anyone here will be happy to assist in troubleshooting the system. Do i need to let it run for 24 hours to purge?Just to confirm that means leave the faucet open so water is flowingg?

Asked by: Ralph
Hi Ralph, Once you get the system all set up, you just leave that faucet open for 24 hours to purge the tank of that bleach and saturate the membrane filter. After that 24 hour purge, you should be good to go, and you can start enjoying your Aquasana filtered water! Thank you, Aquasana Customer Support
