Aquasana FAQs
Do I have to pay for a plumber to install the system?
Our under sink drinking water filter systems are easy to install, and a plumber is not required. If you have any questions or need assistance, please call our Customer Support line at 866-662-6885.
How often do I have to replace the cartridges and how much do they cost?
To keep your system working and prevent the growth of bacteria or mold, you should replace your filter every six months or upon reaching the specified gallon capacity, which is 784 gallons for the Claryum® Direct Connect (AQ-MF-1). The filter replacement cost is $69.99, or $59.49 with Water for Life®. Water for Life® is our no-contract filter subscription program that offers 15% off filter replacements, an extended warranty, and free shipping. Learn more here
Is this purified water?
No, filtered water can be healthier than purified water. Purified water undergoes reverse osmosis or distillation, which strips everything out of your water - not only contaminants, but also healthy, naturally occurring minerals. Our system uses Claryum® selective filtration designed to reduce up to 99% of 77 contaminants while retaining the healthy minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
What's the micron rating of this filter?
The Claryum® Direct Connect is designed to filter down to 0.5 microns.
I'm a renter, so I can't drill or modify the plumbing. What should I do?
Since this system uses your existing faucet, there's no need for any drilling or modified plumbing. Simply attach the system to the cold-water line underneath your sink. It's also easy to remove and take with you to your next apartment or home.
What is the size of the dual port adapter that attaches the water line?
The dual port adapter supplied with this system fits 3/8" water lines. This is the most common water line size.
Does this system remove fluoride?
No, the Claryum® Direct Connect does not remove fluoride from your drinking water. If you're looking to remove fluoride, we recommend a reverse osmosis water filter such as the OptimH2O® Reverse Osmosis + Claryum®.
What does TDS mean?
TDS, or Total Dissolved Solids, is the amount of dissolved minerals and metals present in water. TDS meters tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Read more about TDS here.
What is BPA? Should I be concerned about it?
BPA stands for Bisphenol-A, a contaminant found in most plastics. BPA can adversely affect your health if consumed at high levels. Aquasana drinking systems do not contain BPA, and our filtration process reduces existing BPA found in tap water.
Does having hard water mean it is contaminated?
Water is considered "hard" when high levels of dissolved minerals are found within its makeup. Hard water is more of a nuisance than a health risk and is not necessarily contaminated. Most water sources in the USA are considered hard. Hard water is generally safe to drink after it has been properly treated.
What is soft water, and is it safe to drink?
Soft water does not mean clean water. Your water can be soft and still contain contaminants. Having soft water just means you have a lower concentration of dissolved minerals (primarily calcium and magnesium) in the water.
What is Claryum® Technology and what does it do?
Claryum® technology is a selective filtration process that uses sub-micron filtration, micron filtration, adsorption, and ion exchange. Together, these technologies reduce up to 99% of 77 contaminants from water while maintaining healthy minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
What is the difference between the Claryum® Direct Connect and the other under sink drinking systems?
The Claryum® Direct Connect has the highest flow rate of any Aquasana drinking water filter at 1.5 GPM, while still removing up to 99% of 77 contaminants. It does not require a dedicated faucet, but instead can be used with your existing faucet. Other Aquasana under sink drinking water filters require a dedicated faucet. All of our under sink filters vary based on the number of filter stages used and flow rate. In some cases, the number of contaminants removed varies.
I already have a dedicated faucet in my kitchen. Can I use that with my new Claryum® Direct Connect Water Filter?
We've designed the Claryum® Direct Connect to give you fast, convenient access to clean, healthy water directly from your existing faucet. Although it's not the designed intent of this system, it can be used with a dedicated faucet. You will be required to separately purchase any parts needed for this type of installation. Unfortunately, we do not supply installation instructions for this type of installation.
